Well, since so many of you bugged me to come over, you'll have to put up with my philosophizing:

The upside of a forum is the great information repository and the broad range of contributors.

The downside of a forum is that over time, information gets fragmented, forgotten, and asked about again, so searches end up turning up the same info multiple times in multiple locations. If the GMLR forum is willing, moderators could actually condense information on various topics into nice, well-packaged information that when newbs ask, we could just post them the links or tell them to search and they'd actually find what they were looking for.

Case in point: I quit answering the "3.42 vs. 3.73 + anything" question in the drivetrain section. My GOODness there was a ton of info on that but people were still asking...

There are two links in the wagon FAQ for dewooding but one of them links to the wrong thread. Others are missing pics all together and yet others are mostly a jumbled mess of various replies, lol.

Yea there are some like that I have noticed as well.

However I, as you all know, wouldn't know an optispark from a sparkler so I rely on a friend here for my fleet. The trouble is he is a Mopar mechanic so if not for the forum we would be lost. It has been a great manual of info thats for sure.

Forum moderators: It came to my attention after looking at the Lincoln Online forums that the ISSF had way too much tech data just stored in the forums; their top-level tech site hadn't been updated since 2002 and only had a handful of items, whereas the lincoln site has 200+ articles, all condensed, with no BS and no stupid questions in the middle.

I made a suggestion over on the ISSF that this would be a good idea. So far I have gotten zero response. Another member suggested a Wiki-like page which I think would be fantastic, but who knows whether anything will come of that. Could we do something over here like that? Honestly, we ought to get rid of tech stickies and just have articles that are written by a member who is knowledgeable and passionate, that way it's all in one spot.

As I have spoken in private with many of you, the ISSF's single biggest problem is the lack of leadership vision and follow-through. Let's not discuss that now, but learn from it and do better. The leadership here needs to have vision and then act on that vision.

Can we start with tech repositories? Honestly, tech stickies just crowd each section of the forum and usually get ignored. Let's put them in a different section, can we?

I bet coming up with a Wiki-like page wouldn't be too difficult. I could look into that, or help with coding or something. I have a lot of free time. Smile
