I need a new set of Torx sockets. My Thorsen set from over 10 years ago is finally getting worn down.

Went to Sears tonight and they had a Lisle #27200 12-piece set of sockets for $34.99. Not overwhelmingly positive reviews in the few scattered places I could find online, but a lot of sockets for the money. Not sure of the warranty. lisle set

Sears had a 7-piece set (T10-T50) for $40, or a 12-piece tamper-proof set for $50. Lifetime warranty on both sets. 7-piece set
12-piece set

Anyone have any tool advice on this? Syracuse is hard on Torx bolts, for sure.

I just recently had a run in with Sears on the Torx 'sockets'. I had one break on me, well it rounded off. I took it in to get it replaced and they stated that this particular tool, supposedly since it's two pieces, is not covered under the lifetime warranty. Despite complaining to him as well as the store manager, they would not replace it. Claim was that these carry only the one year warranty.

I haven't yet had time to write a letter to Sears about this but plan to. I'm hoping that it's just my local Sears folks who don't know how to handle their own warranties.

Mike

I'm not sure the tool your brought back was a Craftsman or Sears, but as I understood it, Craftsman tools had the lifetime warranty and anything else they sold did not.

I'll share with you the advice that was given to me years ago, buy the best tools that you can afford as you need them. stay clear of of off brands and knockoffs. the best tools come with life time unconditional guarrentees cause they know you will never have an issue with them when used as intended

Oh, they are most certainly Craftsman brand, I triple checked. I also told them that if that were the case I'd be buying Snap-On or something similar from this point forward!

i have a set of both craftsman torx bits and hex bits they have become well used. the torks have become worn on some of the edges .i keep meaning to take them in to be checked for replacement. i buy only craftsman hand tools and have never had any problems over replacements. i too
was told by a uncle years ago to buy only quality.

i was helping him a couple weeks ago with my chipper to get rid of some tree branches. i asked for a screwdriver to remove the aircleaner. i gets me a cheap dime store model. i ask what is this from the guy who professed to me at a young age buy only quality. his reply was @ 70 i don't think i need to worry about quality much anymore. i will have to take them in and see what sears says. let you know

I have owned a couple of the Lisle and was not impressed at all. Have had a Snap On set for years now and couldn't be happier. Tool guy will replace a broken one with no hassle, period.
