PostSubject: Winter project. BBS Style 5 Wheels   Mon Mar 24, 2014 9:28 pm

So I still have four of the Style 5 wheels that need some refurbishment. The first five were redrilled & refurbished in this thread:

http://gmlongroof.4umer.com/t8663-will-these-wheels-work

BBS BMW RC 090 17X8 Wheels:

As before, they are the wrong bolt pattern. So I visited Jay on Sunday and we stopped by the Machine shop for a little modification.

Dusted off the 5X120 to 5X5 wheel machining fixture and got to it:

And for a bit of multi-media:

Ready for the other side:

After a quick flip, now clearanced to fit over the B-Body hub:

Machining complete, now ready for cleaning and finishing:

To be continued...

So. It's no longer winter.

Amazing what you can do with a Rattle Can and some Clear.

More to come...

UM, so you turned wheels into bolt on wheelcovers? Just kidding, looks like a whole lot of work and no room for error - something I wouldn't try because of my relationship with 'Murphy' and his dumb law.

Thanks for the compliments.

It's a bit of labor and I have had a lot of help from others.

But I think it's well worth the effort.

I will post updates as the project progresses.

Right now I am working on polishing the outer Barrels.

1 almost done. 3 to go.

Just for some motivation. This is what I started out with.

I am hoping to have them ready for WF. Tires are ordered. Waiting on them to arrive. If everything comes together they will be on the car for Wagonfest 2015.

Douglas.

Doug, that is nice work. I don't envy you, I've polished a few sets of wheels back in the day.

Well Doug, Malibu may not envy you, but I think I may when I see the finished product at WF. Can't wait.
