Top speed fuel cut out? Empty
PostSubject: Top speed fuel cut out?   Top speed fuel cut out? Icon_minitimeWed Sep 17, 2014 6:52 am

My 94 RMW is the first vehicle I have ever owned with a top speed governor. I ASSuME that all it does is momentarily disrupt fuel flow once you hit the speed. back in the day grand nationals were limited to 124 MPH due supposedly to the speed rating of the tires. my wagon cut out this morning at around 108 indicated.Sad

I did a search for top speed cut out and most all I got was 5 and 6 speed trans swaps.

Does anybody know how to circumvent this?

Your 94 is an OBDI car, so you can reprogram with a laptop. Others here are better versed than I and have the software. I have the cable and program, just lack the know how.

Start with contacting Moates.

In general for the site:

http://www.moates.net/

specific for GM OBD1:

THANKS! I did a quick google search of OBD1 PCM mods and quickly found more info than I can possibly go thru.

my BFF is an IT guy so I will put him on it for me.

You are welcome. keep in mind they only supply the goodies that you will need in terms of hardware.
You'll still need software to edit the original BIN file.
Try here. it's free.

Tuner pro still locked in WIN95 mode? Was unable to load on a XP/Vista machine.

I'm curious why you would want to go faster than 108 mph in a Roady wagon? In its stock form, I had mine up to 95 for a short while on I-95 through Florida, which is one of the fastest un patrolled roads I have ever driven. If anything ever went wrong at that speed, with as you state a completely stock car, I'm thinking you'd be fukked.

the short answer is because I can. my car was rock steady till the fuel cutout.

FWIW I routinely see triple digits in whatever I drive. or at least more frequently than most people. I live in a VERY rural area. my greatest fear right after law enforcement is deer. I don't drive vehicles without proper fully functional brakes tires and suspension.

I had a road rage incident where someone followed me for well over 10 miles. since I don't carry a gun, or own a cell phone, having a car that was capable of 125MPH may have saved my bacon.

JMO YMMV

I've had it running on both XP and Vista and Windows 8

Did you download version 5?

You can, but I'd be willing to bet the tires on those 15 inch wheels can't. They're likely either S rated (112mph) or T (118).

Food for thought. YMMV, YRMV, BBQ, LOL, YOLO, etc.

speed ratings are a "safety factor" and the standard is 10 minutes at the speed rating. while I do get to low triple digits I never spend more than 30 seconds there. my guess is the terminal velocity of a RMW is a MAX of 120. its all hyperbole until I reprogram the black box.

You'll get past 120. I refuse to comment as to how I know.

And what about the drive shaft? Is it up to speeds above the cut out?

I have had the Impala over a buck-n-a-quarter and the wagon up to about 120. Both handle the speed VERY well and had a lot left. I have tunercat and it takes about 2 minutes to find the screen and 1 second to change the fuel shut off speed. Mine is currently at 255 mph, not much threat of getting there.
