automatic temp control troubles 93RMW

qusetion--93 RMW auto temp control switches -on its own- to "econ" mode while air conditioner is cooling....the switch to econ turns off the air conditioner........have unhooked the battery allowing the temp control to reset itself --- and still having the switch going too econ while air is running,,,,then no cool air???? any ideas??? read the gm/buick repair manual-and it does not address this particular issue..........thanks Tom w

That is what happens when you are low on refrigerant. I had that happen on my OCC last year. I put some in, and allowed the ECC to reboot. All is good.

unless it was converted, the '93 is using the old R-12 refrigerant, not the current R-134.

Makes me wonder whatever happened to R-13 through R-133.

It is actually 134a so it would be R13-134. You can use the replacement R12 if you still have R12. I forget exactly what it is called, but do not mix it with 134a.
