Factory looking radio for 96 Roady wagon Empty
PostSubject: Factory looking radio for 96 Roady wagon   Factory looking radio for 96 Roady wagon Icon_minitimeSun Nov 02, 2014 1:05 am

I know there are a million choices for radios out there, but was wondering if anyone has replaced their old radio lately. I'm looking for a very factory looking radio, with the aux input so I can listen to books on tape from my wife's nook when we travel. I have also given some thought of doing like Mike and getting my factory radio retrofitted. Any thoughts/experiences /prices appreciated.

Put something in with a cassette tape and you can use a cassette adaptor. I did that for years in my Alfa.

Otherwise for under $100 there are many basic radios that will likely work better than a 20 year old stock radio, I've been happy with JVC products lately. Lots of bang for the buck.

This is a little on the expensive side, but I found this in my recent searches.

I appreciate it, but I was looking for something that would also still play cd's. I went to Best Buy last night, and everything they had looked like it was a video game, or had a built in GPS, driving the price to over $500. I swear I remember in the past seeing a double din radio that looked factory, but was just newer, and not made by GM.

They are getting fancier and splashier. Blaupunkt used to mike nice understated radios, not sure if they still do.

One think I like about the JVC radios is that you can adjust the color to almost perfectly match the factory color. Something like this you can probably find on Amazon for about $200.

The site says that it won't fit a 1996 Roadmaster. Is it too deep?

Thanks,

Russ

There, is (or was) someone on ebay who would reman factory radios and add an Aux jack to the front. I know at least one of our members has gone this route. Sadly I don't know the name of the seller.

I think the 1996 Roadmsater uses a Double DIN.

That's one of my biggest complaints about most aftermarket receivers is that they all have a high gloss finish compared to the matte finish of most of the factory units.

If I had the skills, I'd just as soon remove the internal amplifiers in factory radios, making them strictly a receiver with a tuner and add digital media, satellite and HD radio inputs with a single slot CD that connects to an equalizer and appropriate amplifiers for a really good component speaker system. The result is a system that looks and acts stock and sounds incredible.

Here is a link to the factoryradio website: http://factoryradioservice.com/index.php

For $55 + return shipping they will install an aux jack on your radio.

You can use a single Din size and get a mounting kit that will give you an additional storage tray in the blank space. I did that great spot for my IPhone. Jeff

Last year I bought an Alpine for my wagon, it has a basic base faceplate, integrates into the dash nicely. Has bluetooth, USB, CD player. Nice unit. I'd recommend it, but it's discontinued now so It's hard to find for sale. I'll get the model number later.

EDIT: Model CDE-147BT

If someone could figure out how to use a newer Chrysler (CANBUS) radio in an older car this radio would be sweet.

Here is a picture of the factory radio with the aux jack plugged in. It over rides the radio and sounds much better than a cassette adapter.
