So I'm in the process of swapping out the original heater core as it was weeping; and one of the quick connects on the firewall broke upon removal. It may still be usable but id rather get new ones, which they do not seem to make. I have a 91 rmw so they're both 5/8 to 3/4. i got close with a Dorman part but it wasn't the same shape on the plug end.

Anyways, wondering if any of you have found new clips, gotten around this, or replaced it with a different setup?
my friend got me the wrong core so i have a couple days to figure something out before i can put it back together.

might be able to plastic weld it back together.

I believe they will fit the correct core, but you have to get the correct core first.

The 91s have a different system of controlling the water going to the core. The 92 and later have a different system that uses a restrictor. The 91s have a vacuum operated valve controlled by the AC module. The 92s and 93s have the same quick disconnect, and the LT1 cars use regular hose clamps to hold the hoses to the core. I do not know if the two systems can be swapped.

they fit the core hoses (old one) and the new should be the same as the old, from pics. it just didn't fit the heater hose inlet/outlet port where it connects, it's not the same shape. oh well, was worth a shot.
ACDELCO Part # 155404   <---
if all else fails there's a whole new control valve with the hoses and new connects for 67$ on rock auto. alot to pay for 1 clip though. i did however break the plastic control valve upon removal of the hoses and bought that for 20 bucks at Napa,so i could take that back then. lol

down the line i would like to change to a 93 or newer setup if this core doesn't last. but hopefully it does as that probably would be a pain.

You can solder the core if it is brass or copper. I used a propane torch, and plumber's solder with rosin flux. Just check it before you reinstall it.

well, the core is beyond fixing point, my dad used a sawzall to cut the hoses right off the core when we removed it about a week ago Embarassed  My friend that works at a parts store got me the wrong one when i went to replace the original, but the proper one is coming in a few days.

Seeing that the new core doesn't come with the plastic quick connects, and one of mine got snapped upon removal, i either need to fix that one clip, or figure out a way to hook up one of the sides of the new core without the quick-connect.

I got a pair from the "helps" section in the local Autozone. Which side is the broken one from? What is the pipe size?

The quick release parts are not quick release. They are a PITA to get off. It is difficult to get your hand back in the area moreso than getting the clip to release.

both heater hoses use 5/8 quick-disconnects apparently, i thought it was 5/8 to 3/4, so same piece on each side, hmm. i think i broke it on the upper one when trying to take them off the firewall before taking the saw to the actual core. but both inlet and outlet hoses are fine, just messed up the connector.

BUT
good news, my dad just brought me home one that fits, no plastic tabs in the side like the original but hey ill take it!

so now all im waiting on is my new core to make its way here, and a sunny day.

I bought type 7 silicone gasket maker to seal up the ac pan, but now it seems like overkill, 12-24 hours cure time.
