There is a wire end clip that you have to remove before you can turn the threaded wire. You probably only need one turn to adjust it. Parts do wear, and the adjustment may have been marginal initially.
You may have to remove the handle to get it off.
The child latch only prevents opening the door from the inside.

I believe there is a piece of black sealant over the hole for the back nut. The other option is a ratcheting box end. The nuts should be 10mm.
If it is threaded, you can not pop it out. Only one end is easy.

Yeah I had to adjust that threaded bar on the driver side front handle. It was a real PIA to get re-attached. If you have a long pair of angled needle nose pliers they will come in real handy. good luck
