I've been thinking about looking for 92-92 Roadmaster sedan as a drivetrain donor for my 69 van project rather than a wagon because I'd feel too much guilt dismantling a wagon......But I've got questions......
Are the rear axles the same length as the wagons and are they posi? Where is the spid tag on a sedan?
What parts are desirable to not not send to scrap?
Havent found a car yet, but looking......

Why TBI? If your going that route a 2wd half ton would probably be cheaper and easier to find. I believe the wagons axle is larger than the sedans.

The wagon axle is approximately 2 inches wider than the RMS axle. It may not make a difference for the truck. If you are going for a donor, get an LQ4 from a wrecked truck, and install it. The cost should be about the same, and wiring should not be any more difficult. You will also get about 150 more HP without any modifications. The truck intake is supposed to be better than the car intake. Since you are making a major mod, the axle width should not make a lot of difference. You can choose your offset for the wheels to fit. The truck should have a wider rear than a sedan. Depending on the wheelbase, you may need a different/modified drive shaft either way.

2wd half tons are not comparatively as inexpensive in this region, aren't as likely (as a wagon) to be highway-geared positraction, and most likely too wide......The drum-to-drum width of the stock van 10-bolt is one inch narrower than the axle in my OCC, so a wagon rear is nearly perfect.....I prefer TBI because it's got a normal distributor and belt-drive water pump and fan.....I'm just not a fan of the LT1 or the 4L60e and they are more expensive! Even if I lived closer to Riverside, I'm not hardcore enough to pull a rear-end from under a questionably supported car in the dirt with hand tools, but getting one from a wagon already on death row makes lots of sense......Couple of viable RMW's on CL right now that I could drive home for under a grand, but just don't want to be the guy to take one out!

I guess there is the relative simplicity of TBI, but the reliability of an LS engine comparable or better. A rebuilt 60E vs a rebuilt 700R4 are very comparable in price, within a few hundred at most. I will echo Freds comments, and wiring in a tbi harness vs a LQ4 harness is comparable, as is the fuel system.

I thinknall your other Qs were answered other than the sedan SPID, which is on the trunklid. Good luck with whichever way you go!

An inch wider is preferable, but an inch narrower wouldnt be a dealbreaker.....Do the sedans generally have posi and ratios similar to the wagons?

Some sedans do and some do not. The SPID will have G80 on it for a posi.
