Its definitely going to "muffle"some of the sound.Switching the mufflers will make the biggest change.

I installed Dynomax VT mufflers with the valve in them and the drone is zero at highway speeds.  When you crank on the throttle it gets loud as hell outside, but when you let off the valves slam shut and it quiets right down, so you can sneak around town with your wife and kids and you can make a NASCAR like racket if you put your foot into it.

I love these mufflers because I like to be quiet around town most times, but when I stand on it, I want to hear it scream!

(Stock manifolds, export pipes, Pypes X pipe, Dynomax VT's and then stock tailpipes with no resonators)

Do you run tips out the back of the car? Resonators will help a lot, combined with proper tail pipes that is. Resonators will help more than different mufflers. If your wagon has a stock motor keep the stock type exhaust, and install some higher flow mufflers.
