First B body for me Empty
PostSubject: First B body for me   First B body for me Icon_minitimeTue Nov 08, 2016 11:32 am

Hi all,

I just got a '95 caprice wagon yesterday afternoon. I'll undoubtedly have a bunch of questions about the particulars of these cars, but for now I deciphered some of the rpo sticker (it is very faded) and I see that it has 2.93 rear gears with limited slip. I notice that it has a mechanical fan-does this mean that it has the tow package, or maybe an upgraded cooling option? The transmission (4L60E) lacks 2nd and 4th gear. Surprisingly enough, it does fine without them, it makes so much torque that once it's in 3rd it pulls fine. Cosmetically it's in good shape. The interior is very nice, and pretty much the only thing wrong with the outside is some paint fading and door protectors starting to come off. Well, and the previous owner put some non-functional side pipes on it. All the power accessories work perfectly, not one window motor has failed. I will pull the transmission and have it built, that's no big deal. Anyway, I'm excited to have found it.

Welcome.

yes a 2.93 and mech fan = factory tow pack. if the RPO has G80 you also have posi. It was an option even on the tow pack cars.

there may or may not be a tag hanging off the rear diff cover (came with one) which would also indicate the posi rear. Start saving your pennies for a tranny rebuild, the rest of it probably won't last much longer.

Pics when you get the chance (sticky on posting pics in the pics and video section).

It's a G80 car. That's the age-old GM designation for limited slip, and I was barely able to discern that mine has it. Ironically, about 20 years ago I had a turbo regal WITHOUT it. It was hilarious when the boost hit with a one legger rearend out back.

Those wheels are very 1990s.

read up on the transmission before you get anything done.

Looks like a car that lake effect will like,..

As jason mentioned,. If i were you i would verify exactly which gears are working,. before you do any re and re

I suspect you only have 2nd and 3rd,. which is a shift solenoid failure ,..easy fix,.

Reminds me of the rims Ray used to have on the Roo-mobile.

It's an lt1. The trans lacks 2nd and 4th. That's probably the band, which is a common failure point on these. It has a little over 200k on it, so it's not outrageous that the trans would suffer a failure.
