Are you suggesting a forum of people dedicated to 20+ year old cars should be reluctant to adopt and embrace new things?

No. He is pointing out the fact that Message Boards are all but dead due to most folks spending all their time on Facebook and various other social media sites.

I'd have to agree.  Much chatter has moved away from this forum (like the adventures and misadventures to and from WF FL, to cite a recent example).
Personal call whether that's good or bad, as this forum simply becomes more focussed and less social.

I don't Facebook.  I don't know if that's because I suspect the FB conspiracy theories, value my privacy, or am just too old to adopt new forms of socialization.

I was pondering that the latter may parallel my preference for older cars.
The new self driving cars (everything from ABS forward) kinda freak me out.

...and I use my phone for making phone calls .

My desk-top P.C. still defaults to Internet Explorer, I sometimes pay bills with paper checks through snail mail, and all my cars are pre-OBDII.

I have never written a paper check in my life. I had to mail one to a state agency once and had to go into my bank branch and ask for one to be printed against my account. That was the most inconvenient form of payment I have ever made.

2015 is awesome.

I'd agree that then facebook page takes away from forum usage. It's all one long unfiltered un-categorized bunch of drivel.... and no sheep.

Facey pages are good for those who lack the ability to use a message board. I like the message board, we have literate people on the message board.

Ray, I occasionally write checks, I typically drop them off rather than snail mail them even. I almost need another box, they only last me about 5 years for a ox or so.

You can search in the facebook groups, and they work just fine.

They're more mobile friendly. That's where the Internet is going. Mobile usage outnumbers desktop usage now.

Honestly, I think there are different tools for different purposes, and that's OK.
Personally, I like dedicated screen time (and a screen large enough to see).

I'm just very anti-fb, I don't like that you give them your life story to sell, the drama queens, poor grammar and spelling that seems to radiate through it. I keep one just because its expected of me to do it, I did minor in broadcasting and electronic media after all. Sigh, tapatalk works great for a lot of forums, but since this isn't built on a vBulletin platform or doesn't have it enabled you just use your mobile browser. This site does look good there, with my myopia though I need to take my glasses off to view a mobile screen without having to hold it out really far.

Facebook is a great way to find old friends. I have found many of my old Army buddies with it. Easy way to stay in touch with family after moving 800 miles away.

One only has to deal with Drama if they so choose. I remove the drama queens and all around idiots from mine.

Poor Grammar and Spelling radiate all across the Internet, even Message Boards.

I have always had a sort of phone phobia. I find it hard to even call my parents. Text messaging is a blessing for me.

Eh, if you think Facebook is selling your life story, you'd cringe if you really knew what happened when you searched with Google, or Bing, or watched a Youtube video.

Data is everywhere, and it's for sale. Might as well reap the benefits of communication platforms while it's out there.

Echo with Billy says above me, too. I simply "unfollow" the people who drive me nuts the most. Then you aren't subjected to their content, unless you voluntarily choose to see it, but if you run in the same group circles, you can see them occasionally just in case they DO end up having something of value to say. Smile

I'm basically stuck with social media because I use it to promote my blog over at Auto Waffle.

i looked at the page,..

Not much there,..

It's aggravating in some ways all this media posting in different venues especially when you find parts or cars have been sold or swapped and just between folks in a certain clique,.
Auto waffle just freezes my poor little computer,. so i never go there,.

I agree with being "stuck" with Social Media... I can't do anything without it. About 30% of my referral business comes from Facebook. Someone gets on a local community page and asks a question, and 400 people reply with their experiences and recommendations.... IN REAL TIME.

Forums are good as a repository of information, it's just the "snail mail" way of communication of the internet.

Unlike Ray, my plug is not shameless...... It's in my signature..

The same could be said about this little corner of the web.... Post both on here and ISSF, and it sells in one, but not on the other.

Your correct.

I was on Facebook years ago and hated it so bad that I did everything I could to walk away from it. BTW nothing on Facebook ever really goes away.

I recently have signed up for another account. My grandmother passed away and the only way they were communicating was through Facebook.....I was pissed! I had to sign up and search for what/why/how she had passed. When I asked my family would just say "its on Facebook if you want to know" Evil or Very Mad

Now that I have another account, I have only become "friends" with immediate family members. I do not post or like anything, just use it to keep in touch with my family that lives in the same city! Oh well.

.......and I just followed our Longroof page. Not much on it yet.

unfortunately, FB is good at what it does. Figures out what you want and gives it to you. I agree alot of traffic has moved from here onto there. There are at least half a dozen community pages for B-bodies. I even started one for t-56 wagons (has about 8 people in it, lol).

Off the top of my head:
OCC, Buick Roadmaster, B-body wagons, 93-96 Fleetwoods, at least 3 Impala ss groups.

Impala parts FS, LT1 parts FS,

blah blah blah.

It has it's pros and cons.

Pro: the other day while waiting for my dinner in a restaurant opened my feed and saw a post for Fuel Rail covers for $40. Jumped on it and paypaled the guy before my food came (they arrived today).

Con: tremendous time drain looking at everything on there, lol.

Well if you have a busy life finishing up projects etc,......

There's not a lot of time for all this media socializing,. which seems to very easily turn into a full time occupation,.

Too much socializing can get aggravating,...

You should change the word Facebook into Internet.

Nowhere online is safe. I booked a Hotel through priceline. It is the only place I ever used a certain Card I have. Next thing I know, someone in Mexico is trying to make a donation to "Charity" with my card.

Interesting update,.

I rarely use facebook,. I keep everything private,.

Face book temprorarily locked my account,. some horseshit about logging in from an unfamiliar computer

(that's the first thing that bothered me,. its my account where I log in from is nobody's business)

It asks me that to verify its me, I need to type in my birthdate,.

I have no idea what I originally entered for a birthdate,. as its nobody's business,.least of all facebook

Between government agencies monitoring facebook,. and now facebook monitoring facebook,. I think its out of control,.

what started as a cool way to reach out to old friends has now become a stamped method of watching what you say and do,.

I personally don't like the sheep mentality of giving up all my personal details,.

My only options to re-open my account are to come up with the correct birthday,.
OR upload a piece of photo id,.!!!.

I think not,.
F U facebook,. keep my account closed forever,.I could care less.

People that want to keep in touch with me always do,. usually by old fashion methods,. like email,. PM's or even a phone call,.

wonder what the next mass exodus to social platform will be,.due to peer pressure,.
