fan belt / mechanical fan Empty
PostSubject: fan belt / mechanical fan   fan belt / mechanical fan Icon_minitimeSun Jul 03, 2016 8:45 am

Guys,
did every BRM and Caprice feature both the mechanical fan and the electrical one? My belt tensioner from the mech. fan belt is broken and it´s a problem to source a new one especially in Germany. Due to the fact that I do never pull a trailer and live in Germanys **** weather conditions, my car wouldn´t experience those hot temps as in Florida or Arizona.....
I guess I could delete the mech. fan, save a lot of fuel and power losses and going to trust the electrical fan. What do you think ? Or are there cars which have a mech. fan and no electrical?

Cars can have mechanical and 1 electric or 2 electric,.

I drove a roady wagon for a few years with just the 1 electric fan,. using the a/c keeps that fan on,. putting it in neutral when sitting in traffic and idling it up a little i never overheated the car,.we can get some hot days here in the toronto canada area,. but as you say not as hot as the southern states,.

yours is broken,. or seized? You can take it apart to un seize it,.its a pita to get back together,.

You might get by without the mechanical fan, but it is the primary fan. To replace it with an electric fan, you need the upper radiator mount the right fan, and the wiring harness.

Did you try Rock Auto for the fan belt? They give you a 5% discount code through their post in the vendor section, and will ship to Germany.

Gates is the preferred brand, and will usually outlast the others, although if they are inexpensive enough, you could order a number of them, and just replace it if it breaks.
