big condense water amounts out of the AC Empty
PostSubject: big condense water amounts out of the AC   big condense water amounts out of the AC Icon_minitimeMon Jun 27, 2016 6:36 am

Guys,

when I had a look underneath my BRW after a 50 miles trip, i was really scared about the water quantities what are draining down from the AC condenser, I reckon about 1 Liter and I do not live in Death valley , rather in Germany....
My questions: Are those water quantities normal ? It doesn´t seems that there are any precautions to feed the water targeted to the ground, it´s leaking down and first I was confused by thinking it maybe cooling water....however I´m afraid that it collects inside the frame or even leaks down to the passender legroom or makes somehow a mess. BTW: My AC ist working fine so far, does it point to any issues with it once those big condensing amounts will be present?

The only thing you can check for is coolant in the condensate. The cars do tend to dump a lot of water on the ground when you stop. There may be some "slosh" that causes a bit more water to drain when you come to a stop. If it is draining into the foot well, you will notice the carpet getting wet. It can not drain into the frame, because the drain is ported directly to the outside of the car, and down beside the exhaust pipe.

The internal baffling in the drip pan has a narrow passage from the left to the right, and there could be some backup, to that side. It would drain more slowly than liquid found in the right side. The accumulation may appear to be "excess" water when you stop.

I do not think there are any problems with your car, unless there is coolant in the condensate.

A liter size leakage is pretty normal for me here in Indiana. Humidity seems to play a large factor.

If you are low on refrigerant charge or the setting on the low pressure cutout is on the edge, your evap core will partially ice over. When the car is parked, the heat from the engine will melt the ice and cause a lot of condensate under the car. It can also overwhelm the drain system and cause a damp passenger side carpet.

Mine also dumps a crazy amount of water on the ground. no worries, its better than having it dumped on the carpet.

Mine will leave a puddle on the ground and a stream across the street in no time. Just means your AC is working at removing a lot of humidity.

I recently had a chance to measure the amount of water my AC system puts out (see my post on water leaking onto passenger floor). With temps in the low 80's F and high humidity, it puts out about 1.5 liters in 30 minutes of driving.
