Changing from stock steelies with hubcaps to Impala SS wheels - Lug Nuts?

Trying to head off any issues before our trip to New Hampshire get Ben's new-to-him '94 Roady wagon next week. Tom is keeping the stock wheels and hubcaps (tires were dry-rotted). Ben and I are bringing a set of Impala SS wheels with new tires to install at Tom's home. SO the question is, do we need to grab a set of new lug nuts, since we're going from the steelies to the SS mags. My Impala wheels that I installed 10-years ago came with lug nuts, so I don't know/remember if they're different.

Anyone know??

I kept the same ones from my 91 OCC,but it was the nicer wheel.

It is best to compare nut one to the other. Sometimes the tapered end of the lugnut is at a different angle on the alloy wheels vs. steel.

Ben did. I guess that was his excuse for buying Impala SS wheels!

They have a little life left to them, but not too much. That's probably what I told him. Good idea for new tires.

He's buying the tires tomorrow I think. Cutting it close! Looking forward to seeing what brand he buys.

You need lug nuts for aluminum wheels. "Bulge nuts".

Regular steel wheel lug:



Wider contact area on nut for aluminum wheel. You can get them open or closed.

You should put my Turbines on it! Cheaper tires, and it will look great. I'll meet you at Tom's house. Not kidding.

You may need longer studs. The aluminum wheels are thicker.

You do not need longer studs for SS wheels.

Dry rot? Nah! Just do a burn-out and the heat will melt the rubber back together in one piece don't actually do this please

Good Deal! Once less thing to worry about. Ben went and got the new tires mounted on the Impala wheels yesterday. Pirelli P-Zero Nero 235/55/ZR17. They are locked in the bed of his truck waiting and ready for the trip this Thursday. Can't Wait!
