My wagon has a VERY sloppy shifter, the indicator is off by one notch, and when its in park, the pawl doesn't engage the flywheel.
Anyone ever had this problem? If so what did you have to do to fix it?
I've always wanted a floor shifter, would that be a good idea to just do a floor shifter swap

The indicator is moved by a string attached to the column with an adjustable clip, so that part is easy to fix.

Have you checked the linkage at the side of the transmission? When I loosened up the bolt in the bracket, it was really sloppy.

My guess would be that you're not actually getting the trans into park, but that's just a guess.

Getting a floor shifter to fit and work properly is a major undertaking. It is a lot easier to fix the existing shifter. The fact that your indicator is not correct leads me to think there is something else amiss. Check the nylon bushing at the arm on the steering column where the rod goes down to the rotating actuator.
