I have SS rims, and I'm running a 9c1 rear with spacers to take it back to stock width (the SS rims rub on the inside without them)

Anyhoo, the t-56 and 4.10 gears are dictating that I need wider tires... How wide can I go before I have rub issues?

I think I saw someone with 305s...

I have 285/40R18 on my 10'' wide OZ wheels.  I can fit my hand vertically between the fender skirt and tire with no issue. 295 might be doable but I like the margin I have now.

Overall it will depend on how straight the body is on the frame and how close you want to run your tire on the inside.  You can also shave maybe 1/8'' from the skirt without affecting the screws.

If you have the stock OTA pipes you can get away with a tight gap.  On my RMW with the 2.5 mandrel bent exhaust, the 285s don't fit because the OTAs prodrude outwards a bit more, requiring too much spacer.

You won't get 305s on the SS wheel (in part because I don't think there are any 17" 305mm tires in a reasonable diameter).

A few people are running 315/35R17s on them but there's some serious sidewall bulge on it. You might need to straighten your body before you go that far....

Sheesh... that's wider than the tires on most sports cars! Heck, the tires on a Corvette Stingray are only 245/40r18

Yeah, in the front....

Rears are 285/35R19. Grand Sports and Z06 run 335/25R20.

Play with 'em at work all the time.

Ooooh that's nice! My neighbor is a mechanic at our local Chevy dealer and he said that they've had a lot of corvettes in for transmission service lately because they're overheating and going into limp mode after 15 minutes at the track lol. Supposedly someone also filed a class action lawsuit because of it?

Well I'm not buying anymore wheels. Already have two sets of brand new 17s, not to mention 3 sets of SS rims lol. Locked into 17" land for now.

Yeah, no, keep your wheels.

Here's a thread with 315s on some SS wheels: http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/23-wheels-tires/264262-new-315s-r-285s-f-ss-wheels.html
