Adding 80's-vintage chrome-trim pedals to my '96 Roadmaster Wagon

SO GM saved a few pennies per car by removing the classy chrome-trim pedals toward the end of the B-Body run. "Pontiac Pat" up in the Great White North gave me this idea.   Really cool 15-min mod!   Should have done it years ago!

This is a SUPER EASY mod, pulled from an early-80's LeSabre. Brake pedal is a direct-swap, and gas pedal is a bolt-in, and is longer and wider than the stock (cheap-looking) '96 gas pedal...all the better for "mastering the road". Ha!

In the salvage yard, I just peeled/pulled the brake pedal pad off the metal pedal, and then un-bolted the three bolts holding the gas pedal to the firewall.  The actual accelerator linkage just un-clips from the upper arm.   Easy.  Again you will re-use the Roady's 3-bolt mount, so you can remove the LeSabre mount in the yard or take it with you and remove it at home like I did.  

You just want the gas pedal and metal arm.  Had not removed the triangle mount here yet.

AFTER - Chrome trim pedals installed, gas pedal is longer and both look a lot classier!



Oh and I also pulled a chrome brake pedal pad from a 90's-era FWD Park Ave.  It said Anti-Lock-Brakes on it, which I thought was cool looking, but the pedal pad was too small to fit the B-body.  Just a heads-up there!

I was thinking that the longer gas pedal might restrict the travel when you floor it then I remembered it is texas Mike driving so it doesn't matter.

That's correct, I drive like the original Creeping Jesus.... I like to LOOK fast, but I cruise!

RE: Bright Pedals for Roadmasters and Caprices/B-bodies -- As-noted GM saved a buck and slowly removed the bright pedal trim on the whale-wagons and round-body cars, by 94-96 all you got were plain black.

Also as noted above I found out you could easily install '77-1980's-era bright pedals in the whales, and did so (85 LeSabre Limited pedals). I'd had requests to nab more pedals for others and have been grabbing them on yard runs.

The thing about the 80s-era gas pedal is it's the old style, very tall/long, and when installed, the bottom of the pedal sits and pivots on the carpet, and you press the upper part of the pedal...think 1960s-80s land-barges, feels retro (Cadillac -style?).

The 91-96 B-body stock gas pedal is much shorter, and hangs from under the dash, and like modern cars, you can accelerate with your toe on the bottom of the pedal if you want. WELL on a recent yard run I found a 92 Roadmaster with the short hanging accelerator WITH metal trim. The brake pedal also had the bright trim, but says Anti-Lock-Brakes, a modern touch! I've since installed these on my 96 Roadmaster, and while I kinda miss the TALL gas pedal, which also showed up more, the short pedal feels more modern under foot...and I've nabbed two more short pedals for the collection.

I have not found another anti-lock brake pedal, the FWD cars are smaller, and I think only the 92-93 Roadies got that brake pedal, so somewhat rare. ANYWAY here is an picture album of the pedals and differences.

It's the little details that count! Easy Mod!
