Transmission Fluid Question Empty
PostSubject: Transmission Fluid Question   Transmission Fluid Question Icon_minitimeMon Jul 03, 2017 10:54 am

The question is simply" does fluid get constantly pumped in/out of the converter, as well as through the transmission? Or is what you load into  the converter before attachment the only supply that it ever gets?

I have a 2500 stall converter installed by a local company last year when the transmission fried last year. Seems it is no better after the rebuilt it again this year because they for got to attached the kickdown cable in the hole.

So the vehicle will not get out of it's own way, needing to get to 32-3500 rpm before it moves forward or backward. It just acts like it's not connected, or barely so. I was wondering if they never bothered to put enough fluid into the converter, hence my question as to if it cycles through with the pump or not.

Any substantiated info on the subject will be appreciated.

Dave

How does the fluid level look?

I have a 2500 stall converter in my 91 with the 454, and I can hardly tell the difference between it and my stock one in my 92 that has a 350.

The fluid should circulate through the entire trans and converter. The reason for putting some in the converter it to allow you to put as much in the trans before ever moving the innards. There is a vent at the top, and if you put more than 6 quarts in the case before pumping it around, it will weep out of the vent. Once you turn the trans over, you will have to add a lot more (about another 6 quarts) of fluid for it to get near the dipstick mark. If you have an additional stand alone cooler, you may even need more.
