You probably won't be doing "sways". The only rear sway bars available are aftermarket, and they aren't cheap. Your second project should be any rust.

I didn't see more than a little surface rust on the chassis. Body appears solid. I'll get a better look in time. Car is from Maryland, I don't know if they salt there. I got it from a flipper so no real history. Carfax did show a couple of winter Florida service records.
Shocks, then considering the Ford rear bar hack. Many little things will need attention along the way.

LOL. Why can't he do sways? The crown vic bars are a dime a dozen and fit perfectly.

If the car came from Maryland and spent a few winters in FL, you may have a gem in the rough. Let's see some pics of the car and the rusted areas. You might have nothing more than a clogged rear quarter drain or two. Easily fixed if the rust is not to the point where it's perforated.

Maryland doesn't salt the roads much, and even when they do, the drivers there can't seem to go more than few feet before they're doing the "sit-and-spin".

I'd say drive it a bit to see what you've got before modding it. You may need the money for other stuff to get it past inspection, get the AC working, fix the rust, yadda yadda.

No visible body rot, only saw surface rust on the chassis. Plan to check the drains regardless. Will probably use rust converter on the chassis. Very floaty, bouncy driving home. Shocks must be done. I don't think of shocks as a mod, more like overdue maintenance. Rear sway bar is more like correcting an oversight than a mod - in my opinion. The air shocks appear to be long gone, but the lines are still there. I hope to revive the auto leveling function. Not much time off, so all will happen slowly.

A quick check behind the rear interior panels will let you know the condition of rear quarters.

I have the air shocks the previous owner installed on my wagon just before I bought it. They are basically brand new. Not OEM but they worked fine and hold air. You can have them for the cost of shipping.

I'm planning to go to the englishtown swap meet next month. I will be looking for the crown Vic rear bar. Since they will likely be loose at some booths, and I don't blindly trust total strangers, would anyone be able to post a couple simple measurements for the bar? I'm thinking mounting holes, left to right. Also depth, stand the bar up, how high at center?
Thanks.
Of course if anyone in the NJ area has one to sell, I could be interested.

I'm curious about the sway bar comment - my 1996 RMW has an Impala SS rear anti-roll bar. Or so I was told.

Are those scarce/unavailable now? Thanks.

Sedan bars don't fit the wagons. They aren't wide enough. Unless someone spent the money for aftermarket lower control arms on your car at some point in its life that have a 3rd set of holes that are designed for the sedan bar, anyway.

Post a photo of what's under yours in a new thread and we can probably tell you what it is.

Front shocks are done and made a world of difference. No longer feels like driving a yoyo. No rears yet, but body roll has increased. The old shocks we're leaking a lot. Found a link for new aftermarket 1" crown Vic bar for under $150.00 shipped. I haven't found one in a yard yet, might go with the new addco bar. Does anyone have experience or opinions about this route?

Also on the Clown Vic bars, there are different sizes the largest being a 21mm bar. I managed to get one from a dealer when they were still available.... I need to dig it out and put it on the darn car....

The link above is for the 21mm, aka 1" bar. Brand new powder coated, with links and shipping.
