My HVAC functions fine mechanically but the cabin temp runs high.  (Automatic climate control). My mechanic says he would put in a new ambient air temp sensor if it were available. The office gal says she can't find the part P/N 16128510 anywhere.

(Seems like air temperature sensor form factor and fitment might be something that could go unchanged through the ages but then, what do I know).

This component is located behind the glove box.  You remove the under-dash cover and glove box to get to it.  Has anyone else replaced one of these?  Junkyard?  Substitute part?

Thanks for any insight.

Salvage yards is always your best option, and nab 2-3 when you go for spares.

This might also help: SENSOR. AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) Electric Temperature And Motor Control

Part Number: 16128510
Supersession(s): 15-71847; 1571847; 16128510

That at least gives you more part numbers to search.

Impressive. Thanks!

Here's how I could have helped myself: Michael in his reply gave me the Delco part number (along with other excellent information). If I had asked the garage for the Delco p/n I might have found these other parts sources myself.

Note - the sensor is supposed to test out at from 282 ohm to 100.7 ohm. The car is still at the garage so I don't have access. I'm debating whether it can be pulled out and cleaned, but my guess is it's an open circuit and needs replacement with a new one.

I'll keep you posted.

The OEMcats link took me to several sellers with a "listing" of the part, but not the part itself.

I was out of town for a week but when I returned I ordered the sensor from the ebay seller. It arrived yesterday and I installed it today. Problem solved.

I metered the old sensor and the resistance was similar to the new. Definitely not open, not shorted. I didn't pursue it any further and put the new sensor in. But - the thermistor was pretty fuzzy with lint. I do wonder if cleaning it up would have any affect. When I have some time I may check resistance at different temperatures.

I also sent an email to one of the rebuilders of the climate control modules to suggest they repair and stock a couple of these sensors. I may try to identify the actual sensor as replacing the failed component would be simple, simpler in fact than ordering another module.

I haven't buttoned up the dash yet. Trying to figure out how to access the illumination lamps to possibly replace them. Will post in the electrical section.
