Car cover with hood ornament

I just put my new Evolution car cover on my 96 RMW. Great fit and nice mirror pockets, but there's no pocket for the hood ornament.

I put a buffer rag down for now. I believe I can mark the spot and send it back for a pocket. But folding it down might actually be less risky. What have others done?

What I've done (I have lots of cars with HO's) Is use the "pink static packing" that's kind of a cross between foam and styrofoam. I cut a slit in it for the HO to slide into and then there's enough on both sides to 'taper up/down' on all sides. This allow the cover to slide over it, the HO not to poke through, and it's never caused enough stress to hurt the HO.

Looking forward to other ideas.

You could make a retractable hood ornament like the Rolls Royce, and when you turn the car off, it would retract into the hood, leaving a small panel in its place. This would also keep malicious young kids from breaking it off.

This is said a little tongue in cheek, but would be a really cool effect.
