PostSubject: ROT Rally this weekend   Fri Jun 10, 2011 12:29 am

WAY off topic but the ROT biker rally started today and there are motorcycles EVERYWHERE. Bikes are my 2nd addiction, after cars, and I'm really looking forward to going downtown on the bike tomorrow and Saturday. Lots of fun. Again, off topic but thought I'd share!

It's ALWAYS a good time!

-Mike

From the website:

The Republic of Texas Biker Rally (ROT Biker Rally) is the biggest motorcycle rally in Texas and one of largest motorcycle events in the U.S. Enthusiasts come enjoy the amazing motorcycles, the Austin nightlife and of course the beautiful Texas women.

The four-day ROT Rally starts June 9th and runs through June 12th 2011. The rally is always the second Thursday in June each year and is held at the Travis County Exposition Center in Northeast Austin Texas. The rally is known for its high caliber music acts, after all, Austin Texas is self proclaimed “The Music Capital of the World.” The ROT Rally is proud to be a part of Austin and bring top named entertainment to the event each year. Past years headliners include names like Hank Williams Jr., Willie Nelson, Bret Michaels, Joan Jett, Paul Rogers, Steppenwolf, David Allen Coe, Charlie Daniels to name a few. The city of Austin cooperates by closing off 54 square blocks of the downtown area for a huge party on Congress Ave. Friday night, June 10th. It is considered the largest biker party in a downtown area of a metropolitan city. The ROT Rally expects more than 50,000 participants in 2011, and will draw over 200,000 spectators to the downtown streets of Austin during the Friday Night of ROT. The attractions out at the Travis County Expo Center include a ride in bike show, custom bike builders, The World Famous Wall of Death, Comedians, national named bands, The Paradise Bar, a tattoo expo, contests for the ladies, stunt riders, 350 vendors and distributors, the ROT Rally Friday night parade and more. The Guinness Book of World Records certified the ROT Parade as the "Longest Parade of Motorcycles."

The ROT Rally officially starts on Thursday, June 9th at 8:00 AM. The first full day of activities culminates with an outdoor concert featuring Wes Jeans opening for TBA (contract pending). You’re going to like it! Friday continues and adds the escorted parade leaving the rally site at 7:30pm Friday Night. For those who choose to stay at the rally site, there will be an evening concert at the amphitheatre featuring Eddie Money and Taddy Porter as the opening act. Saturday features all the above but adds a “Ride in Bike Show” with over 17 classes. Saturday night’s entertainment is John Gaar Band opening for the Doobie Bothers, don‘t miss it… The ROT Rally is an all-weather event, and it will be held, rain or shine. Rally Ends Noon Sunday, June 12, 2011!

Ok gang, if you like bikes, I got bike pics for you. Awesome night, had a ball. Got there about 9pm and messed around until about 2am....been a long time since I've done that! I took the yellow 96 Honda Magna.

The amount of bikes was staggering. All these pics were taken in downtown Austin, around the 6th street area, which is where many of the clubs and bars are. There were bikes EVERYWHERE. Every kind of bike you can think of too...and every kind of person as well. Had an AWESOME time.

Now before I post these, I gotta make one thing clear. I took my friend Clare with me....she's a real goof and a hoot, and I knew she'd like the show. As everyone here knows I'm happily married and have been for 16 years. Didn't want the Clare pics to give the wrong idea.

Clare was part of my "group" of friends way back in high school. We kept in touch over the years, and about 10 years ago, after me telling her how much I loved Austin...and her telling me how sick she was of Pennsylvania, she and her husband and their three kids moved down here. They live in South Austin. We're still good friends and our families hang out a lot, and my older son and her youngest daughter are best buddies.

I didn't want anyone here to think there was any "hanky-panky" going on. She's just a good old friend and she's got a wacky sense of humor and is fun to hang out with. Clare only weighes about 96 pounds...literally, and she always has. I'm over 250 myself...I'm sure we look funny on the bike together. Also we hit a few bars and after maragaritas and rum-n-cokes she was feeling pretty fine tonight, and she got into the act. Anyway, just wanted to to be clear here. She's just a good friend and we both had a good time.

Also, as usual my camera kinda sucks at night, but you can still see a lot of the bikes.

Anyway, here we go! Lots of fun!

Hope you liked them. Off topic I know, but fun!

-Mike

Triumph tiger 110,. My dad tossed me off the back of his when i was a kid in singapore,. he cracked the throttle to pass someone at real slow speed and my feet flew up and off the back i rolled,. Then i understood better why he told me to always hang to the strap on the seat in front of me, not the outsides of the seat behind me,. dad had bikes all the time, his favourite was his Beezer 650 flash,I can remember helping him 'de-coke' the valves in the kitchen,. my mother was not impressed..trying to make a deal on bike today actually, not a british bike tho.

Glad ya'll liked the pics...and that's all I have.

Kinda amazing that Clare has three kids, the oldest one is 15, the youngest 10....and she still looks pretty much like she did when we were teenagers. I sure don't! She's 36 and still gets carded at bars. Some people are just lucky!

Nick I had to look up a Triumph Tiger. Could not picture it. Good story!

I nearly bought a few-year-old Triumph Bonneville America a few years back. I wish I had jumped on it. I'll get one sooner or later.

Was a really fun night....but I went to bed at about 5am, and my youngest work up at 8am...and I'm letting Misty sleep in since she gave me a "hall pass" last night....and man am I beat. Ha!

Here's the Friday night ROT Rally pics with my oldest kiddo Eddie. He LOVED the tractor bike at the end.

Was a fun Rally! All the bikes were leaving today. Bikes all over the highways....always a neat sight!

Other kiddos enjoying the show

Rice rockets galore

Eddie's favorite, this was pretty cool!

Already looking forward to next years rally!

Not enough photos of barely-dressed biker chicks.

And you should. After all, you take plenty of pictures of high-maintenance cars that you will never own.
