I'm loading up the kiddos and taking the brown '79 Buick. It's a bit of a road trip, about 40-mins, and the old girl needs some highway time.

22 car classes, 5 bike classes, $25 entry per car, free entry to look, teeshirt, register from 7 to 9 am (early, I know... kwitcherbitchin'... it's one of the last big area shows this year).

Expecting around 350 cars and 10,000 visitors! It's to benefit the Bastrop Firemen. They really need it after the Labor Day wildfires down there.

At 11 am there'll be a Veteran's day program including WWII aircraft flyovers, etc. should be pretty cool. If you are not a patriot, stay away.

trophies at 3:30///forum pics to follow tomorrow night!

Was beat when I got home last night so am just now getting around to posting these. Really a good show. Pretty weather in the 70's with a nice breeze. LOTS of cool cars and bikes, some nice veterans events, and I'd never looked around downtown Bastrop. It's neat!

As usual I went a little nuts with pics. Enjoy!

Here we are coming into town. Follwed bikes and hot rods into the event.

Got a good spot next to a gorgeous GTX, a Ford hot rod, and a 74 Chrysler New Yorker

Big Tuck!

The GTX was SHARP!

The Ford rod was sharp, but the owner was all paranoid my kids were going to touch his car, so we didn't hang out there long...

Wild color unrestored New Yorker, sold new in Midland Texas, and has original finanace form on display under the hood.

So lets start walking around!
How about a gorgeous Packard Super Clipper

Next up was a sharp Corvair convertible, with a/c! Texas fun

Next up is kind of neat. The guy that came in this GMC was wearing a Save the Whales T-shirt! I was shocked. Really nice guy, lives in Leander, and just recently bought a white over grey 91 Olds Custom Cruiser. He's got a wrecked '94 9C1 and is about to swap the drivetrain into the Cruiser. We talked for a good while. He'd found the shirt for sale on the ISSF page. He will be getting our the forum soon. Anyway the truck was sharp, it's a '71 GMC with a 250 straight 6 and they did a body-off resto on it. Clean! They are actually selling it because they have a '72 C-10 and want to use the funds from the GMC to restore the C-10 next. Pretty cool!

MEAN sounding 1960 Biscayne pulling in.

LOTS of nice hot rods

Slammed 454 SS

408ci Duster. Wheee!

Lowrider '65 Impala SS

When did you last see a SubLime '74 Dart Sport?

Clean early 70's Mercedes hardtop

Some cool Novas showed up. Blown 70, rodded 70, and very clean green '74

Infamous Cross-Fire '82 Vette

Now this was funny and brought back memories. Shelby Shadow CSX, these cars had fiberglass mag wheels, remember seeing them new at the New York auto show when I was in high school. Have not seen one in years and this one was near perfect. Funny 80's hot rods. Ha!

Wildy-modded T-Bird

Another clean Corvair, this one a 1st-gen

Now look at this....does this look like a Mustang to you? It's not.

Gorgeous '53 Chevy Pickup

Tuck found a wagon. Notice the polished wheels. I didn't tell the owner my mother-in-law has Bullitt wheels on her Fusion too... Ha!

Just as we got here, along came the Veteran's Day Parade

Another wagon, this one an oddball Corvair. Factory A/C and Spyder gauges

Clean 2nd gen Vair

Pretty Mustang 2+2

Really a great show.

Put Tuck in the back seat, Eddie up front with me, windows down and cruise control set at 70mph, and drove back roads home, from Bastrop to Elgin and then through Taylor. No traffic, nice weather and big old Buick. Good day with my kiddos.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

-Mike

Wish I could set my cruise to 70mpg! Smile

I think my favorite of the bunch was the pink panel wagon. I liked that old cream colored mopar, too. The Beetlejuice was awesome! Smile

Thanks for the pics. It was 27* here this morning. Sad

The weather here is still crazy. Have had a couple of cold snaps that lasted about 24hrs and then it warms up again. I lost two more trees to the ongoing drought, makes me sick, one of the things I love about my house is (was) the big 30-40 year old shade trees. So far I've lost three trees this year. We still are not getting rain, and I spent yesterday in the yard with a chainsaw taking the tree down behind my carport, and another in my front yard. It was in the low 80's, so was sweating and covered with sawdust. Fun stuff.

Supposed to be 83 today, and then drop to the 70's tomorrow, 60's Wed, but back to the 80's by the weekend. Come join the temp rollercoaster! Please bring some rain!

that malibu needs a bit of love in the detail department, but it looks clean. I have all the parts it would need to finish it off right.

that mustang is sad... reminds me of a thread I once seen in another forum where a few dozen pictures showed some of the new orleans flood damaged cars sitting in compounds awaitting whatever....

Yep there were a lot of "before and after" pics from the Labor Day wildfires.

This one hurt to see:

Before:

After:

Sad stuff!
