Nah. I just like the look. I'd never go SUPER dark, just dark enough to get a slight black tint on them.

I'm sure a lot of the stuff I've done or contemplated doing to my car is odd to most of the guys here. I'm 21. I'll probably grow out of it too. Smile

Definitely won't grow out of loud exhaust though... too much fun.

That's ok Jim, I never use my brakes anyways. Wink

And like I said, it's not as dark as it looks.

So I've done quite a bit to the truck since I last posted. Yesterday, I took it to my mechanic and had him go through it. He replaced both front hubs, all 4 shocks, an inner tie rod, an upper ball joint, idler arm, and idler arm pivot (all Moog). Then I had my buddy install a remote start and keyless entry for me too. Yesterday was an expensive day.

Since I had all that done, and today was supposed to be a beautiful day in the hugh 40's, low 50's and sunny, I took it off to get some more done on the truck. Not going to have many more days like this this year! First thing I did was have it aligned, so I wouldn't kill my new tires. Man, it rides a lot nicer now, and my steering wheel is straight again! That was driving me nuts!!!! It rides a little firmer with the new shocks (Gabriel Ultras) though. But I can live with it. And all the play in the wheel is gone!

So on my way home from the alignment shop, I stopped at Autozone and picked up some Rustoleum spray in bedliner (because I wanted the bed all one color and was too cheap for a bedliner!) and Rustoleum lense tint (because I wanted to see if it really was better than that VHT crap). Then I hit the spray-it-yourself carwash to clean and prep the bed for paint. I used the free vacuums to get the loose crap. Then I used their spray degreaser in the bed. Then the foam brush. Man I feel bad for the next guy to use that, and that is why I NEVER use those brushes on anything nice! You never know what the last guy did! And then I high pressure rinsed it and headed home.

I started by removing the back rack and then blowing air all through the bed with my compressor to dry it and blow whatever loose stuff was left out. Then I red scotch-brighted the whole thing. Then I rubbed the whole bed down with isopropyl alcohol to degrease and prep for paint.

Then I taped it off. In retrospect, I should have masked more and papered the sides of the truck. Doh!

Then it was time to shoot it. I didn't really like the way it was laying down. It was very hard to get a nice, even coat out of it. It either came out way too fast and ran like a mofo or came out as mostly propellant. I did my best and laid down a few coats as I worked my way down the bed.

It acutally flattened itself out pretty good as it dried. Also got less and less glossy. I can't wait to see it tomorrow. It got too dark to see how it's gonna end up.

When I pulled the tape, there was overspray EVERYWHERE! Oh NOES!!!! So the whole truck pretty much got a bath with the isopropyl to get all that off. Doh!

Then I decided to try out the rustoleum tint on the tailights that came on the truck. I figured "why not?" I couldn't make it worse than the first attempt. All I did was wipe the lenses down with isopropyl. No sanding. And it was too cold. And it was too windy. And the sun had gone in. But I just don't learn. I layed down one coat.

And it came out PERFECT. With NO CLEAR. Rustoleum is a superior product. FACT!!!!

Since I still had some daylight left, I busted out my heat gun and got rid of those super ghey 4x4 stickers. Yes, it is quite apparant that it is a 4x4. So why??? Then I installed the tails too. Probably too soon, as they had only beed drying about 45 minutes. But as I mentioned previously, I'm not too bright...

Yeah, that looks MUCH better!

I was hoping that my diamond plate and projectors would show up this afternoon, but I wasn't that lucky... Boo. Maybe tomorrow? I actually kind of like it without the back rack... What do you think?

Since I still had some light left, I cleaned all the windows inside and out and then I installed my stereo that I had in the old truck. So much better inside now, too! All I have left to do in there is install the seat heaters I bought. Hopefully soon!

So yeah, busy day. But it was fun and I'm happy. Smile

AMAZING transformation. I really like the RWL tires. Tail lights came out GREAT!

If you decide you're not happy with the bedliner spray, you can get a can of bedliner stuff at Home Depot that you pour in a paint tray and use a paint roller to apply. Buddy at work used it and it looked like he'd paid a pro to do it.

Really is a sharp truck. Glad you're having fun with it!

-Mike

Oh PS are you putting Z71 stickers where the 4x4 ones were? Every redneck doofus down here does that, even on 2WD trucks, which is what 99% of the pickups are down here. Rolling Eyes

Thanks Mike. Smile

Yeah, they had the roll one one there, too. But that was going to end up being about 75 bucks. This was $30. Wink Besides, I wasn't looking for real protection, I just wanted to make the bed a little less ugly and maybe not so slippery for cargo. Goals achieved. lol

And NO! No z71 stickers!!!! I would have removed those, too! I may remove all the GMC, SIERRA, and 2500 badges too, like I did on the last one... I dunno yet.

So I dropped the hood off at the bodyshop the day it came in. Hope to get it installed by mid week next week.

Getting closer!

Can't wait for my caps to come in!!!!

When it stops raining/snowing I plan to put on my step bars, headlights, and intake. Then all that's left is my amp and sub and the seat heaters. Til something breaks. Wink

Still haven't decided on the backrack!

Leave the backrack off, looks much better as it is. What kind of caps go on those Hummer wheels?

Also, on the seat heaters, have you had issues with those. The passenger side seat heater on my wife's Burb still works fine, but the one on the drivers side is dead. You press the button on the door panel and the lights come on for a second and then go off.

It's not a huge deal, but thought you might know about a common issue. I'm sure it's the same on Burbs and Silverados...same rigs. Her truck is a 2003 model.

Mike, the only issue with the heaters in my truck are that it didn't come with any. Wink

I'd look for a short in one of her heating pads.

I am just going to run stock chrome GMC centercaps that have the plastic lug caps that hold them on. Don't want to use those ugly hummer caps. They kill the look of the wheel!

Didn't you just buy new RWL tires last week for the wheels you had? I'd thought you'd just move those over to the Hummer wheels.
I must have missed a memo somewhere. In any case the Hummer wheels look sharp!

MAN! You need to find a used tire place that deals in dealer take-offs!! The last two sets of 17's put on the Suburban were take-off's, around $200 installed for all 4, Bridgestone Dueller RWL. Both sets looked new. About the only issue I had is I sucked it up and went to Discount Tire to have one set balanced. The balancer at the used tire place is pretty Mickey Mouse.

Bitchin!!!! Very Happy Color match came out pretty good! He even straightened out the bumper for me! The hood fits pretty ok. But the gaps at the fenders are a bit wider than stock. But I can live with it.

Aaaaaannnnndddd.... I now have a room with a view!!!!

I even think it's a little faster now. lol

Heading out to the driveway to install my lights now that the bodywork is done. Gotta get my step bars on too. And hopefully the caps will show up today!!! Getting close!!!!

Hey Bill want another cheap mod that actually looks really good? When I bought my wife's '03 Suburban the previous owner had left a piece of velcro on the top of the dash. When I removed it, it pulled the paint off the upper bezel above the radio. I about screamed as it was the 2nd day I'd owned the truck and was trying to detail it, and I ended up messing it up.

Anyway I started looking around for a replacment bezel, and found a new in-box Denali bezel. It just snapped on in place of the Chevy one and looked TONS better. The interior of our Burb is grey, and the Denali bezel has a smooth grey face outlined with dark grey-colored wood. It looks totally factory and since I put it on years back a few co-workers with Burb's, Tahoe's and Silverados ordered one after seeing mine.

Just an idea!

Here's one but he's proud of it. I paid $75 for mine back in '07. Still looks great.

You need to look for a 00-02 bezel. FYI. Looks basically the same. There are a few used ones on Ebay but I'd look for an NOS one.

Yeah, 7 month because we renew in our birthmonth in NH. And the temp tag is good til the real tag comes in, which usually is a week or so.

And I may or may not keep those long-term temp tags hanging around after I get the real deal. For... You know... In case of emergency or something. Wink

Diggit! So luxurious now! Razz

That was a GM dealer upgrade kit. Found a guy with a closeout lot of them on eBay for 29 bucks! Very Happy And the steering wheel cover was a display for 5 bucks. Doesn't quite match, but is close, and feels cheap, but I kinda like it anyways. Will work until I find a deal on a real factory wood one. Smile
