PostSubject: Getting Jade Ready for WagonFest (and other updates as they come)    Sun Mar 18, 2012 11:17 pm

Ok, I don't think I've started a thread on my '95 RMW "Jade".

Here is a link to my album which will show you the work I put into it so far...
http://s418.photobucket.com/albums/pp261/chrisandcarapowell/Jade/

the engine and trans came out of the white RMW project I was trying to finish. That wagon got the better of me. This wagon will not.

I am going to NY...so I HAVE to finish some stuff. I don't have the money to do a full repaint, but I am getting the OCC bumper and stock grille painted DGGM at least. I was able to drop that off today with the body guy. Hopefully the grille won't be too off as a match. If it is...I guess I will get creative.

After this, I need to transfer over Nick's rear LCA swaybar mounts to this wagon....install the larger swaybars, new shocks and steering components. I also need to install new rotors, my $13 Hawk pads and new brake hoses. Then it's wheel and tire time!

I am also going to the CarISSMA spring Mod day in April and hoping to get my 3.42 posi and new yoke kit installed (my rear is slinging fluid like a mo-fo right now)

Then hoping to do something with the peeling trim. Polish? PlastiDip? Still thinking. I have a darker wood panel (replaced I assume, look at the back pass door) and not sure what I can do about that.

I will post as it happens! It WILL happen Smile

Chris

White Wagon...lol...

Its still a rolling storage unit. I had it scheduled to go to the metal recycling place, but felt really bad about it and called it off last minute. A guy in Canada expressed interest in it, but then I didnt hear anything and made the recycling call.

Im having it moved to my place later this spring....as a rolling storage unit.

Chris, if we ever get together, I can make that back door match the rest. I like the CC bumper.

Looking good chris. As for your white wagon, I am willing to buy it before it turns into scrap. We can make out some kind of deal for sure. We'll have to talk. Seriously.

OK! Phase 1 (making the bumper match) is complete! Picked the bumper and grille up from the bodyguy @ lunch. I still need to attach the bumper and put the rubber strips/chrome strip on.

Looks great! I forgot to tell him to fill in the plate holes..whoops. Still looks good and I plan on a full repaint down the road anyhow. Cost $220 and I am tickled it all matches. Plus the huge tear at the bottom is fixed! cheers

As for the White Wagon, is it literally a shell. No interior (its in Jade) no engine/trans (in Jade). Some folk have expressed interest in it, so it will likely go to a new home.

Here are some pics! Next phase is tint, then door panels. I need to put my defogger-less rear window on this weekend.

Chris

Well, inbetween gigs I found some time to finally install my defroster-less back glass! I remember when I spotted it at PullaPart a few years ago...thought Id won the lottery! My junkyard buddy thought I was a nut.

Jade gets dropped off for tint tomorrow night! 20% all around

Nice! I wish I could of did mine that dark but I couldn't wait till I got home so I had it done in FL and it was against FL law to go that dark, oh well. I can live with what shade I got or maybe retint it later, I do not think the wife would notice...LOL

OK, I gotta ask... Why on Earth would you want a defrosterless hatch? I have passed on buying cars that I REALLY liked because they didn't have rear defrost... What happens when it's a damp day out? You don't like to be able to see out your windows?

That said, tint looks awesome! Smile

(and it hides that weird interior color) lol Razz

I guess the same can be said for "My would you not want a wiper arm on back"
Because it sucks not having one, and trust me I hate that I don't have one in the winter.

Cool tint job. IMO wagons always look better with the windows blacked out.
Two question though-
what was GM thinking putting a red interior in a dggm wagon?
And where did your door panels go?

My buddy Ben from New Jersey was shocked at how many Texas cars did not have rear defog when he first had me looking for rust-free projects. The 91 Camaro RS didn't have it, and the 79 Electra, a California native car, also doesn't have it.

I personally am glad my Roady has it, and the wiper. We do get a few freezes a winter and on foggy/damp mornings it's nice to have.

That said, I can understand wanting a "smooth" look with no lines in your rear window.

Not to mention the work at the tint shop. Guy that did my wagon remarked that the rear glass is the hardest to do with defrost lines.

Defrost lines make it harder to tint the back glass for sure, but they can also help to hide imperfections, and can allow for a 2 piece tint job to be done (if the glass is a very hard shape to do)

20% looks great! Glad I got 20%. Not legal in Maryland, but I don't get harassed too much. Only one ticket Laughing

Damn- 20% is illegal there? My dads 91 and the 77s all had 5% on the second row and cargo area glass. I think in MO you only have restrctions on the front door glass and the windshield.

MA is the same, 35% is the maximum legal tint. However, somehow, on SUV's and wagons they get away with more as long as their front two windows are 35%. So I had them do 35 on the two front windows and 20 the rest of the way around.

In Maryland, the way it works is that any SUV, minivan, or pickup can have any % rear of the front most side windows. Any wagons that have a sedan brother (i.e. don't come with tint from the factory, so pretty much wagon's except the Magnum) are only allowed 35% on all windows ex. windshield. It's a pretty stupid law, but depending on where you are, it's loosely enforced. In the county that I live in, the northern part of the county is very strict on this law, and WILL write you a ticket (the one that I got), but the southern and eastern part of the county (where I live) is very relaxed, and usually don't even mention it during a traffic stop (have been pulled over more times than I care to admit, and only had the tint mentioned once, when I got the ticket in north county).
