PostSubject: The best folk really are wagon folk!   Mon Apr 30, 2012 8:57 pm

It's been said before, but it's so true. Today driving home, the 1A2 I'm borrowing from 95BRMW ran out of gas in the back road hill territory where all the rich folks live, I know the gas gauge usually works right in this car, but this time it didn't go below 1/8" tank, and the light didn't come on (until a tenth of a mile before the car died!) The car started doing a typical "I'm about to run out of gas" thing and as luck would have seemed to have it, I was just about to crest a huge hill, and it would have been a slow downhill almost 2 miles to the gas station. I got closer to the top and thought "I'm gonna make it!" I could coast down the hill and then I only had to drive a flat half mile to the Sunoco. Got to the top of the hill -and saw a road block with a detour; I knew at that point I was totally screwed, the detour would take me 5 miles out of the way... about a mile of driving and the car ran out of gas. I got out and tried to get my bearings as to where the hell I was and start walking (I don't own a cell phone) just then a box truck stopped to help. I asked the guy if he could give me a lift to town, so I could call someone. He said he could do even better; his house was a half mile down the road and he had a 5 gallon can full of gas! We talked and he said he has a '55 Chevy wagon, and previously had an RMW that he loved but his wife hated. He thought the Caprice looked cool with the N97's and we talked a bit about them and how wagons can't be beat. He mentioned the problems he had with exhaust flanges breaking and ALC failing, lol. Anyway, it worked out thanks to a wagon guy!

None here though.

At least, not of the active posters I'd say. Smile

Glad to hear you found one of the nice folks. I just loe it when I pull up somewhere with my wagon and then I look up and somebody is just staring at my wagon, and sure enough they are wagon lovers. And the conversation begins. Great bunch of people for sure.

cool story, reminds me of running out of gas in the mountains of Costa Rica. Rented a Geo Metro from an American and he told me the gauge got stuck at 1/4. It got stuck at 1/2! I was in the middle of nowhere and there was a farm about 500m down the road. I walked up there with my phrase book and met the ~10 year old and between us, Spanglish prevailed and I bought a few liters off him for about 3x the pump price and was happy to pay it, lol. He then gave me directions to the gas station which was about 15K back in the direction I came from.

Cool kid.

Its always nice to meet another wagon fan. What's interesting is I don't think I ever saw the low fuel light come on in that car, guess I know why Very Happy

Lots of gas stations also sell "emergency use" phones too. Might be time to join the 90's.

Our wagons seem to put strangers at ease and create the perfect environment for cheerful
stories of their youth.Once the baby boomers are gone, the great station wagon stories will
disappear as well.I cringe at the thought of minivan stories replacing ours in the not too
distant future!

Nah, I had one before, it was really more of a nuisance than anything else... a nice surprise walk would have been good for me, lol.

Wagon's have ALWAYS been uncool.
Live with it.
Embrace it.
Mate with it.
