1996 DGGM Caprice Wagon, 94k mi.

Up for sale is a 1996, the final year, Chevrolet Caprice station wagon. Factory no-wood car. 150 500km (94k mi) This one has been lightly, and tastefully, modded. This car has been owned by genuine GM B-body enthusiasts. It is a very highly optioned caprice, with power seats both sides, tilt, cruise, automatic headlights, p/locks, p/windows and autodimming mirror. It could easily be transformed into an "SS wagon" if you so wished by purchasing a DGGM SS grille and impala SS wheels ( I have a set of SS wheels available for additional cost if you want).

This DGGM (dark green grey metallic) wagon was originally owned by a wealthy couple who used it as their spare vehicle. It was then purchased by a young woman in her 20s who used it to go camping. As such, it has a few light scratches on the sides from tree boughs. However the scratches only go to the primer. It was like that when my brother bought it and no rust has developed. It was finally purchased by my brother about 4 years ago. The car was set-up as a pleasant highway cruiser and hauler. The original 2.56 open rear was replaced with 3.23s and a detroit truetrac worm-gear positraction differential that will never need rebuilding. It performs flawlessly in the snow. While the differential was being changed, the axle seals were changed and the differential housing gasket was replaced with the CORRECT gasket with proper oil holes. The wagon also received SLP (Street legal performance) 409 Stainless steel "shorty" headers which are the only 50 state emissions legal headers. The headers are in fantastic condition and were recoated at jet-hot in 08. The engine received new 1.6 ratio comp pro-magnum self-aligning roller rockers along with beehive springs, the stock ones barely being adequate for stock use from the factory. The exhaust consists of SS export pipes a pypes 2.5" mandrel bent X-pipe, dynomax 17749 superturbo mufflers that connect to the stock over-the-axle (OTA) pipes. A set of 95 Cats can be included if you need them. It is just a bit louder and deeper than stock stock with absolutely NO drone. The trans was rebuilt by Joel (Sherlock9C1) with upgraded forward piston, beast sunshell and Sonnax shift kit. The Sonnax is MUCH nicer than the Transgo HD2C . The PCM was reprogrammed to account for the new gears, stiffer valvesprings and roller-rockers, and cat delete (disabled rear O2s). It runs on regular (87 oct).

The wagon has a class 2 trailer hitch and wiring. The caprice has a full length roof rack. We also installed bilstein sport (1104/0929) front and rear shocks, with brand new moog springs (5030 cut 1/2 coil front, CC505 rear). The car rides tight, not boat-like and the rear will NOT sag even if loaded. The front end was completely rebuilt with brand new components (tie-rods, balljoints, centre-link, bushings, etc) and aligned with upgraded specs with closer tolerances than OEM.

Within the last year (about 5000 km), EVERY fluid in the vehicle has been changed. During the course of diagnosing a misfire issue which turned out to be a broken O2 sensor wire IN the loom, the following was replaced with new components:

- AC Delco optispark (which was installed with the proper tool)
- optispark vent harness
- front O2 sensors
- PCV
- spark plug wires
- 41-943 double platinum sparkplugs
- felpro timing cover gasket kit
- Felpro 1284 intake manifold gasket
- 8x flow matched injectors w/ new o-rings
- Coil
- ICM

The Engine now performs flawlessly, uses no oil, and has great vacuum. The car has 15x8 rally wheels with 235/75R15 tires.

This car is in very good condition. It has very little rust on the body, in the door jambs, or under the car: It DOES have a small bubble (no perforation) on the rear d-pillar (common on the B-body wagons) and surface rust on the frame. I am selling if for my brother. He is a veterinarian and he uses the car to carry his 2 dogs, though he has covered the rear with industrial rubber mats and the front seats with seat covers to keep the car clean. He needs to get down to 1 car. The title is clear, but last year someone bumped the front driver's side caused slight damage to the front bumper skin. We've been trying to find a civvy DGGM bumper for a year but they are harder to come by than SS bumpers. I suppose that would be the route to go if someone were to put on the SS grill and wheels. The car has QUEBEC plates, and should pass any province or state inspection and emissions (the headers are legal in California) with no problems provided you install cats, though they will be at the sole responsibility of the buyer.

This car is one of only 37 1996 Caprice Wagons imported to Canada.

Hey Jason, I'm interested in the wagon and would like to see some current pics (lowered and tint) and pics of ANY problem areas or typical problem areas...I don't want to seem picky, but if I'm going to commit to a car, I'd need to see it as if I were going to see it in person (if you want, take a look at the pics I took when I sold my 95, here). Also, in some of the further away pics, it appears the moldings got cleaned up. Were they just dirty when he got it, or are they in bad shape?

Last thing, I was looking into importing a car from Canada to the US. Are you familiar with any of this, or no? I guess it really just needs some paperwork and to have a compliance sticker, I think it was FMVSS...does that still exist on the car? I don't have a passport to come get the car either, and I can only assume the importer needs to be the one to bring the car over/through customs (i.e. You couldn't bring it to me in the US...?)

I have a tentative deal with an ISSF member from Nova Scotia. I should know within a week if it's going to work out. I'd prefer to sell it to someone in Canada, just because there is almost no paperwork involved.

I haven't dealt with sending a car TO the USA, but I have a passport and I could drive it across for you, provided you take care of the paperwork. I have a good idea what you need but we can cross that bridge if we get there.
