PostSubject: Tow the Truck   Tow the Truck Icon_minitimeTue May 15, 2012 10:25 am

My dad's truck broke down again and I had to tow it home for him and THEN tow it to the local Ford Dealer. Luckily this time we had a camera. I'm still amazed at the raw power of these wagons. My roady didn't even break a sweat!

I got on an F150 forum and posted what was going on with the truck but dad decided he's worked his whole life and works too hard to have to spend the weekend under the truck guessing at what's wrong and why it won't start.

This is the 2nd time someone on this forum has had to move a Ford truck with a wagon... You know what Ford stands for don't you? Ask the man who owns one...

When it first broke down, I towed it about 2 miles back to his house thenI had to tow it across the street to the dealership the next day... so not that far. If I would've know he was going to just take it to the dealership we could've dropped it off the night before. no biggie

im sorry every mfg builds a turd or two

you wont hear a foul word from me about most ford products.
my 95 f150 was awesome...id still have it if gas werent $4 and my commute wasnt 24 miles each way. i miss that truck!

my 94 f150 was beat to hell. it was a used up farm truck that spent a year behind a barn with weeds up to the door handles. i drove it for a year and a half after i bought it....up till i got hit. never gave me an issue.

my 02 focus, it gave me no issues. i flogged the hell outta that car. raced it, drove the hell out of it (100k in 3 years). never once, even with all the mods and beating on it did it break down on me.

none of my wifes fords ever had a problem...not one!

oddly 2 of the three chevy's i owned DID however have some issues. one of them was badly neglected by the po.
cant complain about the 98 S10 i had..good truck, and great mpg!

my jeeps ..all three of them were tough as nails....wish i could say that about my wranglers frame though..

my dodge ram (82, 2wd slant 6, 727tf auto) ran great but the frame was crispy.

my toyota...was a dud

my buick..has had some issues...but all the other buicks in my family were perfect.

I've owned about 20 some cars over the years and have owned two Fords and a Lincoln.
All were pretty good, until the van burned a hole in the piston, but that was the a-hole that sold me the wrong plugs for it.

I got me a Mercury coming in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned.

Worse vehicle ever was a VW bus first year with a water cooled engine. I acutally saw it recently with a new engine in it. Long boring story

In my 32 years I've owned 11 cars:

9 - American Made
7 - GM
2 - Fords
2 - POS VW Beetles

My Fords were both F150's and they never gave me any serious troubles. The '80 that I had, the head gasket blew and we had to replace the head after it cracked, the king pins seized, the muffler fell off and occasionally the passenger side door would pop open when going around a corner...

My 95 F-150 never gave me any serious troubles either. The undercarriage was mostly the problems on that one. The rear shackles rusted and broke, the front control arms rusted and broke and the fuel pump gave me problems. Other than that, it was a good dependable truck, 'til I sold it to buy my wife her..... *gulp* mini-van.

I strayed from tradition and bought a 01 VW Beetle GLX with a 5 speed a and a turbo.... I ALSO bought my wife an 01 Beetle only with an automatic, the same week. We were both driving 80 miles a day in opposite directions to work, so we needed gas savers. Well, the hood latch on her car ended up breaking and I couldn't open the hood, when it rained hers wouldn't start unless you gave it gas... until one day I was trying to start it for her and it back fired and blew apart the CAT. The engine on my GLX ended up blowing up one day on my way home from work.

Never again will I stray from my tradition of American Brand Cars.....

We should hear shortly from Bewber, who has the typical, irrational, unwarranted, unjustifiable, brain-dead, can't-explain-why-but-knows-Ford-sucks-because-his-big-toe-hurts Ford hatred.

I'm picky about my cars. Because I'm 6'4" I will always take comfort over best MPG. Sorry I just don't like squezing into a sardine can that's designed to fall apart after 100,000 miles, just because it gets 40MPG. Which leads me to state that I have a strong opinion on cars, trucks, and vans.

All manufacturers, and I mean all, even GM, make IMO really stupid design decisions. Most likely to save on cost. Which is okay to a certain extent. And now a days it almost seems like they're making these vehicles as disposable as possible. It's almost like the world is stuck in this mindset of why fix when I can buy a new one. Keep it till the warranty runs out and trade it in for a new car. And the auto companies are pandering to this mentality cause is costs them less to make things that only last until the warranty period is up.

OKAY! OKAY! . . . climbs down off his soap box. . . Had to cut myself off before I got wound up.

Ford mechanically I like their full size trucks all depends on the powertrain/year/model. I don't trust their 4 cyl cars. . .But I don't trust almost all american 4cyl. cars. Especially the ford contour, escort, cavalier, stratus. . .blah blah blah. . .

Now the Crown Vic. I like. The powertrain was a little underpowered in it's hay day but what cars weren't . ahem thanks Uncle SAM. Didn't care for the transmissions either until they added the better Hwy gearing options. 1990-1996 Roadmaster wagons are my absolute favorite, but I also love the early to mid 90's caprice/impala body style. If I was to get a full size sedan I would look for one of them first.

Vans, and I don't mean mini-vans, I am very particular about. Dodge couldn't design a decent cockpit if their lives depended upon it. Ford was okay until they switched body styles in the early 1990's. The inside rooming was better before the 90's change, but still a little lacking on leg/foot space, especially on the front passenger side. And it wasn't until the early 2000's that they moved all the fluid reserviors, and dip sticks to where they could be accessed easily. Better imporvement for the front leg/foot space here too, although still not as good as GM. In 1996 GM got it right on the bodystyle IMO. The driver side cockpit was/is perfect for a guy my size. And the space on the passanger side beats the pants off of all the other vans out there. Needless to say that is the main reason I purchased our 1997 GMC Savana.

I could go on and on but it all boils down to personal preference. And for me I always try to look at all the varaibles and weigh my decision based on comfort, reliability, servicability, and how economic the vehicle will be. I try to find the best balance for me and my family needs.

I bought a brand new 96 Probe for my wife and a brand new 97 pickemup for me. Seven years later, the Probe had yet to have a problem, while my truck had one that the dealer never fixed properly because it was easier to screw the company by changing the part instead of diagnosing the issue. Her Probe had close to 100k on it, and handled like one of Crovo's Miatas. So, Fords are junk, I hate them and everything they stand for blah blah blah and I love my wagon that every part has broken on at least once. Ford sucks! Chevy rules!

I've got to say, that I do prefer a Chevrolet to a Ford or Chrysler vehicle, but I'm not one to go bashing on other companies. I am a car guy first, and a Chevy fan second. Crown Vics are one of my favorite cars, especially the police package, because you can drive them into the ground, and they'll keep on going.

That 4.6 liter engine was the first American made V-8 to survive the LeMans 24hr race, some 20 years ago. JUNK!

I got a brand new Probe (400 miles) as a Hertz rental back in 1990. I was in some midwestern town and bored out of my mind. I returned it the following day with over 600 miles on it and no first gear or overdrive. and a pull to the left. Umm, not sure what happened but that brand new automatic didn't hold up to spirited driving shall we say.

I of course used the express return Smile It smell like asbestos all over the place. I had to manually shift the car to get it to move and 2nd was slipping pretty bad too.

That DOHC 4.whater ever ford motor they put in the Lincoln Mark VIII, damn I'm going to look for one of those for my '68 Cougar!! that thing is a screamer, drove on at 150 in a Mark VIII

I just saw this..... Great pictures. Sorry your dad was having problems, but the picture made my day!!!!!

I remember pulling into the gas pumps with my Impala SS on the way home from work about 10 years ago. A Ford Bronco was dead at the pumps in front of me. He was curious was I was smiling ear to ear when I helped him push it away from the pumps. I told him "Any day a Chevy guys gets to push a Ford it is a good day". He had a sense of humor about it.

We had that down to a science... he used his brakes to stop us and I kept tension on the pull strap. It was a little hairy trying to get across a busy intersection but we made it without breaking anything.
