Where is the underwood 20A fuel pump fuse?

I see two 20/30 fuses near the antenna. Is that them?

I stopped for gas to top off and put 10 gal in to take it to the top.
Car won't start now. Cranks though

Caught and stalled out first time then nothing. Fearing fuel pump...

I have no multi meter with me

assuming you have an LT1
it's the 15A: Top row, 2nd from the left when facing the box.
There's also the 1st rectangular horizontal relay that is closest to the antenna. 2nd from bottom row, 1st on the left,

No, its TBI, my bad. I found it, jumped the fuel pump per Brokecello, and verified that I am getting no fuel at the TB Sad

Long roof forum emergency plan in action, as luck would have it I'm less than 30 miles from a fourm member's home. Now waiting on AAA to earn their membership fees with a tow

Props to the Dr. for his assistance and hospitality!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the rundown:

Left house at 11:30 AM for at 320 mile drive. Arrive destination at 4:00 AM.....not a good average speed.

Didn't have to be at destination until 6:30 PM. Small child aboard needed multiple bathroom stops.

Around 2PM ran into an issue around Sebastian, FL. I-95 NB shut down! Crap. Only took 20 minutes to get off and back on our way (had to have happened in previous 20 minutes as it was only backed up for less than a mile. Pulled out a map and used some county roads to get us about 20 miles to the next exit. Wasn't too bad, but slower going.

Stopped at 5PM just east of Silver Springs, FL for an aforementioned potty break. Gas was a good price so I topped her off. Was running great. 5 minutes later, twisted the key and she caught and then died out like she fuel starved. Multiple start attempts nothing. Pushed it away from the pump to a shady spot. In the back of my mind I already knew it was the fuel pump. Got the Dr's phone number from Flash Gumby (dunno why I didn't have it in my phone from previous meetings). I spoke briefly as he as at an appointment and offered up his driveway. Further diagnosis (thanks Chris) with jumping the fuel pump directly showed no spray at the throttle body.

Waited about another 30 min for Dr Olds to call back (didn't get his address on the first call) and then call AAA. Had to wait an hour for the tow truck (I was about 15 miles east of town). While waiting for the tow truck we saw a near accident. Kid in a riced Acura stops on the state highway and guy locks them up to avoid. The kid makes a U-turn into the gas station oblivious as to almost getting creamed and goes to the gas pump. Meanwhile the other guys car stalled and now won't start. It's making sounds like the fan is hitting the radiator but it's front wheel drive so I dunno what's up. A guy on a motorcycle gets of and goes to help. Now westbound traffic on the state highway is dead stopper. The fiddle with it and then push the car off onto the shoulder. The idiot kid now gets in and drives off and doesn't give the now stranded car a second look....Niiice, his inconsiderate self has just ruined another's Friday night.

AAA shows up and we get the wagon loaded and start off for Mark's house. It's 27 miles away. The driver is nice and chat a little but with my wife and daughter in the cab, he doesn't say too much. I notice though that he's dumping the clutch pretty hard on this Nissan and wonder out loud if it's cause the wagon is so heavy. He kind of laughs it off that yeah, she's alot of weight back there. I then notice that he's using two hands to shift gears now and he says the clutch is going away. We manage to keep going albeit in second gear and he's speed shifting at the appropriate times into third, but then we hit a light and we stall. More wrestling and he gets in gear and turns the starter with it in gear (must have disabled the safety switch). We do this twice and finally he pulls off on the side of the road. Those with facebook have seen the photo with my wagon on the back and the cab opened on the tow truck. Luckily, there is a mini-mart nearby and he goes off to get some power steering fluid for the clutch. He asks me if I'll stay with the truck while he goes. I respond why, is someone going to drive off with it? We both laugh and he's off.

He is successful at the Mini Mart. By this time Mark has called and has purchased me a fuel pump and strainer and is only a few minutes away and do we need power steering fluid?
We get the fluid in there and pumping the clutch about 40 times and it starts working (driver had called another driver who told him what to do). Great back on the road! We make it the last two miles to Mark's and I"m off loaded into his driveway at 9PM.

Having been to the rodeo before, I get started and figure we'll be done in 90 minutes......
I use my phone and make a quick review of Nick's commentary on the tank drop thread where he doesn't take the front bolts out. I went this route to 'save time'. Not sure how much time it saved as it took ALOT longer to get the rear of the straps in, but I didn't have to disconnect the fuel lines.

Anyway, I get the tank down and about 5 gallons drained out of it (I had just filled it), and one of the nuts on the sending unit won't come off! Apparently the head of the bolt is no longer attached to back of the metal ring and it's free spinning. We spend at least an hour and half trying to figure out a way to get it off. Just before we hop into the car and go to the 24 Walmart at midnight, I make sure with a test light I'm getting voltage at the pump plug by the rear bumper. Yep, voltage, so off we go to buy hacksaw blades. Mark had just about every other tool under the moon and stars but no hack saw blades. I finally get that little biatch cut off and the pump out. Props to Mark for the idea of using the impact wrench and holding the saw blade against the bolt while spinning it, otherwise I'd still be there sawing on it. The hacksaw blade was the ONLY tool that would fit in that space.

Bench test the new one, hurray it runs, and assemble. I notice why my fuel gauge doesn't work (the float broke off and Chris' fix didn't last - he said it worked for 2 weeks when he did the fuel pump 60K ago). I stick my hand in the tank and feel around for it. No immediate luck and I don't have time to waste (after 1 AM now). Also, the nice wagon sending unit on my work bench at home ain't helping....sigh, so I turn the key and get a thumbs up from the Dr. that it runs. Put it in and tighten the remaining 5 nuts, snug but not over tight.

There is still too much gas in the tank, so we drain some more and get another 4-5 out by jacking one end of the tank up. We get the it up there and of course the straps don't wanna line up with the bolt holes. This is the time waster I was talking about as when I've done it I put these on first and then lift the front and it seems to go alot quicker. That and the rubber vent hose for the fuel door doesn't want to go back on like it's now a 1/2 inch shorter (it's still not on there great but I think it's ok). We wrestle it back up there and eventually get it all together.

I double check all my nuts and bolts, make the sign of the cross and turn the key. I turn it on and off three times to prime the system and then crank. She fires up like normal and it feels like Christmas morning. Drop it off the stands, clean up, wash up, wake the wife and daughter, load them in the car and bid Mark a fair adieu with MANY thanks.

My shakedown cruise is 40 miles up the interstate between 3 and 4 AM. RUns like a top, and we get to the hotel at 4AM. Take a shower and scrub off the grease and hit the sack at 4:30. Up at 7:30 AM for a full day of martial arts training.....I was in bed around 9:30 last night, lol.

Ride home was good, although the tank is no longer airtight. I can smell a trace of gas around the rear this morning and there is no suction anymore when I open the filler cap.
Will have to figure out if I can remove that ring to replace as Flash Gumby will have one on a cracked tank when we swap his his soon.

Glad things worked out John and cudos to Mark for coming to the rescue.Pretty sure Nick's idea
was for use with very low level of gas in the tank.Guess gas fumes were not a problem when sawing thru the tank screw or you wouldnt have been posting this.Glad it worked out.

The idea about using the impact to spin the bolt around instead of trying to saw thru the shaft
was genius in my book and pretty quick thinking too!

I love hearing stories like this, of one member helping out another far from home. This is what this place is all about! Smile Way to go!

And, uh... Sorry your fuel pump crapped out and you almost killed a tow truck, too. Wink

I remember the last time was on a rollback that size - both back tires blew out on the tow truck and they had to send another one. Wish I had taken a picture.

Not many wagon owners passing thru where i live,.even fewer where i,m working,.but night or day, i,d pitch in as needed,.

IF you have the resources,. and the time,.use threaded rod to make 1 longer tank strap bolt,.after it sucks the tank strap up ,. the other bolt will start,.

I,m a little brutal sometimes,. i use the jack to squash the plastic tank abit,. so the 1 bolt starts,.

If you want an ignorant hard job for a single mechanic to do,. try putting new tank straps on a pickup, and bending them to fit, and getting the bolts to start,. threaded rod will be your friend,.even more difficult with a sore shoulder ,..later diagnosed to be a broken collar bone,.
but i digress,..

Nick

just to refresh,. with two guys, 1 balances the tank on the jack,.unpin the wire holder for the three lines,. knock off ring yada yada,.
reverse order for reassembly,.

repeat as necessary,. Laughing
