Introduction of a Ricer....

Hello, I'm Sleepy. I am a Honda/Nissan gearhead. I do alot of car flipping. If I see a brokedown Honda/Nissan I buy it, fix it then sell it for $$$$!!! I've been needing a truck for awhile to tow my projects (my wife dosn't like it when I use her accord ).

So, Sitting in a field for a year or so over by a friends house sat a 1992 oldsmobile custom cruiser. It was full of JUNK and the window had been left cracked open, but all in all still seemed to be in pretty solid shape. I saw this car and realized the beauty in it. Who needs a truck when you can have more??? I've got kids and this just seemed way better than a truck in so many ways.




After some detective work and a few phone calls I finally got ahold of the owner. He believed the Headgasket had blown and had pretty much just abandon the car there awhile back. He lost the keys and everything but still had the title for her. I decided to go for the lowball offer considering the situation and I picked her up for an AMAZING $250.

Got the title in my name, Had keys cut at the GM house for $7 and charged the battery. FIRED RIGHT UP! After 2 minutes or so of running she would start to smoke. the longer she ran the more she smoked. Oil looked good and I wasn't loosing any coolent. This led me to believe this probably wasn't a headgasket after all. Pulled the intake off and realized the filter was covered in OIL!!!! This made me realize the oil return holes in the head were clogged. Popped open the valve covers, cleaned out the return holes in the head, Cleaned up the heads and Seafomed the motor. NO MORE SMOKE!!!! Runs like a dream with 105,000 Miles.




Hope to become a helpful part of this community. I'll be needing it considering I've never owned an American made vehicle in my life, and I've had over 30 cars....Where's the VTEC on this thing?!?!?!?!?!?!

so what does a honda/nissan guy have to say about the tbi 350?

I actually have the 305 in mine according to my VIN. It's not too complicated. Pretty simple. I did not like having to remove 2 valve covers LOL, But most everything else is pretty easy to get to. Nice to learn something new.

american made car!I found my V-tec in the third seat footwell,rolled up in a sandwich baggy.

Welcome to the world of real cars. You got a killer deal right there! That thing's got better paint than mine and you nabbed it for a fraction of scrap value. You're right about the utility. With all the seats folded down it's like an enclosed El Camino that can haul 4 X 8 sheets of plywood or derilict Asian cars in the back. Enjoy!

A little more info on her. She has leather or vinyl? Not cloth. Not a scratch or tear one.( thanks to all the junk piled in there she was protected from the sun) She has a compass on the rear veiw, has the electronic climate control. Air suspension in the rear (blown) and power everything.

Where are you located?

That would be a geniune leather interior and hopefully no rust due to your west texas location.

What color is the interior? Run your VIN at www.compnine.com to get the full breakdown of options along with the number produced.

Congrats on a great find. You kept a nice car from becoming a parts car or worse, crushed under the Federal Cash for Clunkers law. You will enjoy it for years. Now that is Recyling!

My turn signal Stalk is floppy. Turn signals do not work because of it. I'm guessing I need to replace it?

Also, my advisory brake light is on, on the dash. I've checked my fluid and the parking break isn't ingauged. Not sure why its on?

Those seem to be pretty common. I like the blue, but I'm biased. It's my understanding that the most common interior color was blue and therefore parts are common.

Get a factory service manual for your car. You will be glad you did. It explains just about everything you will ever want to know, and then some.

The brake light can come on if the parking brake switch is out of adjustment or even if the pedal is on a few clicks. Have you tried pulling it up while holding the release lever to see if it goes off?

It still amazes me how cars down south don't rust. Nice find!

Zombie,there are a bunch of service manuals on ebay for both years and I got mine for 20 bucks!

I purchased a huge service manual. Been pretty helpful. I replaced my rear hatch shocks and put a Kenwood headunit in her. I've bought the part to fix my turn signal, just haven't had time to do it. Slightly upset I can change a turn signal switch in a Nissan in 10 minutes but have to pull my steering wheel off on the wagon.

Fixed my turn signals today. Thank you gastt. Very informative write up. When I pulled everything off, the piece of metal going from the stalk to the mechanism was the only thing broken. I pulled it off and welded it back together. This car is coming along nicely.

I got my 91 OCC in june 2004 and bought my first serious manual for about 100 dollars shortly thereafter.I just bought a identical manual
off of ebay for 20 bucks.Isnt ebay great?

Failed inspection! My brakes weren't good enough. I know this will sound dumb, but I Just thought they were like that cause it was an Oldsmobile and I wasn't used to driving something so big. I pulled the back passenger wheel off and the brake cylinder was blown out. I had to grab a buddy to walk me through drum brakes, but I got her fixed for ten bucks. Hopefully she will pass tomorrow. Stops WAY better, but my brake light is still on??? Didn't see any more leaks and we bled the system.


Also, should we move this thread to the build section?

Did you disconnect the battery? Sometimes the computer stores codes and the warning lights won't go away until you reset the computer.

Wont pass inspection with the brake light on either.Should plan on doing the opposite side asap
because its probably getting old as well.At the very least,pull the drum and check that wheel cylinder out!

Passed! No the other side was good. Ill try he battery tomorrow.
