Seems like the defroster for the front window only get the middle 50% of the window. Not much air out of the two side vents. Anyone has the same problem and any potential fixes/solutions?

The blower fan is kinda noisy, so i might have to replace that?

You could have a lot of crud in the fan cage. The side vents blow air at the door windows. You may need a replacement fan as well. The only way you can find out is to pull it apart.

You are taking about the dash, correct? Sounds like a project for when I actually have a free weekend...

I assumed you were referring to the small vents at the ends of the dash pad. If you were not referring to them, you changed subjects without me knowing about it. It can beciome a weekend project, but you should be able to get it done in a day.

The vents are all part of the same manifold. If air is not getting to them, it should be universal. When you are in defrost mode, the only vents that get air are the top and side vents on the dash pad.

Yeah, like Fred said. Sounds like you've got some crap in the blower motor cage. Takes a couple minutes to drop it out and look. Get a shop vac and clean up in there while it's out. Clean all the crap out of the blower cage, reinstall and see if it's better. If it's still loud with low flow, replace it. They're cheap at Autozone or wherever, like 30 bucks, IIRC.

It's easy. Start to finish in like 15 minutes, if you take your time. (Not including the run to the parts store) Wink

Ok, so I don't have to pull the dash apart to get to the part...
Where is the blower motor cage located? Passenger side footwell?

The top vent is getting some air, but not much. The side vents are getting hardly any air. So we are talking about the same thing, just from a different understanding of what the problem is / where the part is located. :-)

It is behind the bottom panel on the passenger's side of the dash, in the back corner. 91-93 use a 7mm socket, 94-96 use a 5.5mm socket. Three screws and one connector to remove. You may have to pull some wires out of the way to get it out. If you want OEM performance, you will have to get a used unit. The new ones from AZ and others have a short fan, and do not produce the volume of air the originals do. It is a noticable difference, a loss of about 25% of the airflow.

Thanks guys,

I will take a stab at it one night when i get home early :-)
Maybe use a wire coat hanger and push one of those swiffer duster sheets through the ducts.

As Fred said, try cleaning it first. Don't replace it unless you absolutely have to as the after market ones don't work anywhere near as good as OEM ones.

Pushing a swifter duster through the ducts is a futile effort. Open it up and check the fan. It may be your fan speed module as well, so you should check it too. It is next to the fan and has 4 screws.

Would it be possible to use the OEM cage on a new blower motor?

Alright, turn out that fixing the AC will correct this - without AC working it simply pulls the humid air into the cabin when it is raining, with the AC working it recirculates the air, keeping the humidity out.

Had the leaking AC hose replaced, not the find the compressor to be leaking from 3 different spots - seems like I won't get a break until i have all new parts in this thing. At least it is working for now and holding most of the freon - still needs to be fixed in the next couple of months though.

And last week the heater control valve blew apart - coolant all over the place and in the low 90's outside - always fun to wait for AAA towing in that kinda weather :-/

No, the motor sits too high. the aftermarket fan has a higher center to allow clearance for the motor.
