HVAC Controls Empty
PostSubject: HVAC Controls   HVAC Controls Icon_minitimeThu Sep 19, 2013 11:26 pm

Randomly on some days I'm having issues with the electronic controls not responding. Most often nothing will happen when I try increasing or decreasing the temperature. Once in a while increasing or decreasing the fan speed will also not respond. This can go on for an entire drive to work, yet driving home will operate normally as if nothing were wrong. Any thoughts?

Sticking buttons? Dirty or worn contacts behind the buttons? Faulty climate control unit? Just some initial thoughts.

Year and model?

Try the reset trick and see if that helps.

I'll give the reset a try. Car is a 96 RMW. I doubt it's dirty, sticky or worn buttons/contacts becuase when it works it works fine. When it doesn't work, there is absolutely no response.

Well I finally got around to resetting the HVAC system using the method described in the other thread. Seems to have helped out. All buttons and functions seem to respond flawlessly. Will know as more time goes by and whether or not I have random issues anymore. If it were to persist, what would I look at next? Climate control unit?

I would say yes. First I would try getting a FSM and see if the troubleshooting steps in there might shed more light on the issue before throwing a part at it. They are not to expensive. Look on eBay that's where I got mine. Good luck.

Or just take it apart and see if there's a bad solder joint somewhere on the board.
