PostSubject: Clips, Pins, Bits and Pieces   Mon Sep 23, 2013 3:43 pm

So today I started looking for GM part number 10172513 - the little black clip that holds the tail gate door lock rod so I could put the tailgate back together - can't find the darn thing anywhere. (Found on seller online that want $25+ for each clip).

Which brings me to the following question: Has anyone thought about the feasibility of making the parts themselves with a 3D printer? Seems like it would be a way to get new door panels, clips, odds and ends that are no longer produced.

Not sure what it would cost, but thought I would throw the idea out there and see what sort of reaction it gets.

I guess this would also allow us to redesign some things so they last longer? (Door panels cracking comes to mind).

Somebody did design one-piece door panels somewhere. I've seen them for sale. They were insanely expensive.

A 3D printer would be interesting....

s1l1sc...can you attach a pic of the part you are speaking of so we all can be on the lookout when we go yarding? Always good to be pulling and saving the "hard to find" bits off the wagons that will be going to the crushers.

A 3d printer would really come in handy. Just a few parts that come to mind but possibilitys are endless
Sail/fly away panels
Rmw upper and lower trim clips
Door panels
Misc clips
The cup holder on my 96 that's missing

Fred likely has them. Look in the section for Fred's posting and send him a PM.

On my 94 RMW, I used a dye and cut a few threads onto the end of the rod and used a nut with Nylon to hold it in place. Works about 95% The bad 5% is when you pull up on the release the handle stays up until you shut the gate again, but that's minor IMHO. 95,000 miles later it hasn't missed a beat

Are we talking about the bar that opens the gate like a tail gate? Has anyone tried a push washer?

Are you looking for the U shaped clip with 4 little prongs on the inside?

If so I have 2 of them, PM me an address and I will get them to you.
