I think Crovo and I need our own section for stuff we bought, this never ends I mentioned to a couple of you (or less?) yesterday that I was going to look at a 92 OCC today. Well I did and I bought. I didn't snag any pics of it, but the seller listed this nice video of the car on youtube that shows it off pretty good. It's true California car and it shows it. The underbody is absolutely spotless, you would have a hard time finding rust. The body is in nice shape, except both DS doors are ruined. Some jap tin can drove into him, screwed his doors up but they got it much worse . The car was garaged it's whole life, and the seller is the original owner. Anyways, its dark maple red over tan (real light "camel" color), loaded with the tow pack and does not have a rear defroster which looks really cool. Am I friggin nuts? Yes. Don't be surprised if the black wagon shows up for sale soon Pics from his ad:
And a video:

Congrats David, she,s a beautiful wagon.Looks like the owner is a car guy judging from that El Camino sitting behind the wagon.Wont need much cleaning up which is a great change.

I take back my comment about the seller being a car guy.His statement about it being a 350 horse with a 4 barrel tells me he,s been listening to the kids on TV too much unless there is something different inder that air cleaner housing.Still a beautiful color, are you looking for the drivers doors yet?

It's been a couple years since I had all 3, I think I found a worthy successor to the 91 I had.

That was one of the "oh wow!" points. I didn't think red and tan was available on these. I'm not a huge fan of tan, but this particular shade of it really stands out.

He said he use to be a mechanic, but yet calls it a 350hp. He's not too much of a car guy, he has a magnum he bought used and a luxury car in the garage (I think it was an infiniti or something. The el camino just happened to be there. He replaced the tuck caliper he mentioned, but didn't bleed the brakes

He put that carpet in there when he bought it to protect the original carpet. The carpet under there looks brand new. He kept it clean inside and out, it's nice to see one that isn't trashed.

I forgot to mention, it does have some issues (doors aside). The windshield is cracked top to bottom down the middle, guess no more sungate for this car. The main problems is something electrical. The car runs and drives fine, but the ABS, temp, SRS, and one other light is on constantly on the dash. At random the car will make that dinging sound, but it's not constant. Sometimes it will go on for a few seconds, sometimes you'll get a half a note out of it. If you tap the dash while it's making the noise, it will stop. I'm guessing something is shorted in the dash, but who knows where.

Don't count yourself out yet. I had one of the new "green" sungate replacement windshields put in and you could definitely feel the difference vs. an untinted side window. It may not be purple, but it was doing its job.

How much did that run or did your insurance cover it? I found a couple yards near me with sungates for $100, used of course.

Nice score! Looks great.
I didn't realize there was a new replacement for the Sungate so I've been living with a real long crack for years in my OCC.

Man all the sungates I see around here are all delaminating on the edges. I think there is another brand out there too, can't recall it but it does the same kinda thing.

The sungate replacement I got was around $250 installed I think.
The edge delamination is ugly but it's a side issue. The biggest problem I run into with used windshields is that they are sandblasted from used. They have lots of little tiny pits that inhibit good night vision because they turn into tiny reflectors. I would be real hesitant to get a used windshield unless it was guarranteed low mileage.

The windshield on my 1A2 was so sand blasted from 200k miles of I95 driving that I had it replaced because of a safety issue. When the sun (or headlights at night) hit the thing it was a solid wall, almost hit someone because of it.

I almost forgot the added bonus with the car. He also gave me a NIB hood liner he bought years ago and never installed. I priced one out for my RMW a few years back and that was $175. Sweet!

Folks, I rode out to the Five Towns with Dave to look at this car on Sunday, and I have to say, I don't think I've seen the underside of a 21 year old wagon ever look that clean. We're talkin' unpainted metal with not a spec of rust on it. The seller mentioned that he drove it out from California to NY many, many times, and always garaged it in both homes. He said while the car was in NY it would pretty much stay in the garage all winter.

Looks like I got the trifecta thing going on again
Saturday I drove home from Queens a 92 OCC which for much of it's life was a California car, and it shows in a good way. To start off, yes the car needs work (would I buy one that didn't?). The upper control arm bushings are shot, ball joints are barely there (and to think I drove this thing 75 miles home!), it has electrical gremlins, and it needs a couple doors. Car did ride decently enough though even with the barely existent steering. I'll let the pics speak for themselves, the under body is absolutely amazing. The original owner I bought it from did a great job keeping this car clean. That thing in the back BTW, is a NIB hood liner. I doubt I'll ever bring myself to install it.

Yeah, until it's 25 years old. It should pass without a problem with that California emissions crap on it, that's today's challenge.

From the pictures it looks like a very well kept car. Yea, I have a Buick and I am not knocking it, but for me, I seem to be most fond of the Oldsmobiles. Good luck and keep us up to snuff with the improvements. ed
