| I grew up in Buffalo, survived several blizzards, including the '77 version.. We lived with the threat of Lake Effect weather every winter. Warm lake and cold air=disaster. When it hit it was incredible. You all have heard of what's hitting Buffalo this week. Given my growth years, how could I have chosen any other name. . Here's what lake effect actually looks like. For those of you in the south, this is called a "persistent snow band". The picture is of Buffalo NY out to the southwest past the waterfront. To the right, , a trace of snow. The first Niagara Center, where the Buffalo Sabers lose every year is in the middle. Within the band to the left snow falling at the rate of 3-5 inches per hour, up to six feet accumulation, with drifts up to 8-10 feet in persistent wind driven areas. The band has closed the New York State Thruway (I- 90) from Rochester to the state line near Erie PA. Emergency first aid is via snowmobile, Crime rate is near zero.

| I grew up in Muskegon Michigan. I have an intimate relationship lake effect snow. Yes, even the storm from '77/'78 where I had to jump out of my SECOND story bedroom window in order to get to the garage and fetch a shovel so we could tunnel out the front door. (snow went into the tub with hot water running.) | |

| The bad news :It's unbelievable, round @ is still dumping snow. Over 88 inches in some places, more where it's drifting.
The good news:The Buffalo Bills won' t find another stupid way to lose a football game on Sunday. It's been called off. The playing field has over five feet of snow on it.

Update: the Bills game has been moved to Detroit, to be played on Monday. Sorry to wreck your good news.

| As many of you know, I'm in Rochester, 65 miles away.
We got a "slight dusting" 2-3 inches. Not even enough to bother with a shovel.
