Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how the secondary flap is supposed to work when engine is fully warmed up.
when engine is cold, choke is closed. Then choke opens quickly.
But when choke is fully opened, it's nearly impossible to open secondary flap.

Is it normal ? The car feels really slow, and I do not hear the typical Quadrate secondaries opening sound...

The secondary air doors (on the top of the carb) work with engine vacuum. They are lightly spring loaded to keep them closed, until the engine needs more air. Make sure your vacuum brakes are working, and all your linkage is relatively clean, and free of clumps of dirt, oil, varnish, leaves, and seeds that seem to find there way into the engine bay.

Check out you tube, there is a lot of info on the Rochester Quadrajet on there.

The quadrabog you have has a vacuum pull on it holds the secondaries from opening too fast,.,.
you won't be able open the upper air flaps if the car is running,.
on your throttle linkeage the base plate has a lever that holds the secondaries closed when the choke is on,.called a secondary lockout,.
These levers get seized up

To hear that famous quadrabog sound,. turn your air cleaner lid upside down and re install.

Shanlla,
Didja ever get the barn doors to open like you wanted? The secret is adjusting the door spring and secondary metering rod selection. Caution, the gas mileage you destroy might be your own...

Hi Paul,

Secondaries seems to open fine. In fact, original air box is too "closed" to hear secondaries opens but it's working. My stock 305 just need more torque to move the wagon Wink

The struggle is real....Maybe you should research a 350 swap.
