Poor connection between the ends of the struts is not uncommon. Check for continuity between the inner and outer parts of the strut. If this is something that has been from the git go, it could be paint on a couple of surfaces. You will have to experiment with it.

I had the same problem on the driver side lift, I think. A new one fixed the problem.
