PostSubject: 18X9.5 in rear of RMW?   18X9.5 in rear of RMW? Icon_minitimeTue Nov 17, 2020 3:24 pm

Good Afternoon,
I have a 1996 RMW and I am looking for some real world feedback on wheels.  Yes, I have searched many forums and it seems there is a bunch of info on 17" wheels (because of the Impala SS wheels) and a bunch on 20" wheels (well, because they are 20s ?).  I have not seen much on 18" wheels.  I really don't want to go to 20s because of the shorter sidewall and 17s I feel are becoming somewhat of an odd size.

My wagon is a DGGM wood delete, however I may be adding some "wood" to it, sadly without the outer trim pieces.  Because of all of the chrome on the RMW, I want to stick with a chrome/polished wheel and finally found a wheel I like that isn't $1000+ each.  This is the wheel that I am considering
https://www.ridlerwheel.com/607-polished

They have it available in the correct bolt pattern for the RMW in a 18X8 and 18X9.5.  I am wondering if an 9.5" Wide wheel can fit on the rear with the side skirts?  Anyone have experience and if so, what size tire can go on it as well?

The 18X8 is a 0 offset with a 4.5" backspacing
The 18X9.5 is 6 offset with 5.49" backspacing

These wheels are also available in a 20 X 8.5 (although I would prefer to stick with 18) with 0 offset and 4.75" of backspacing. Any thoughts on this will be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The stock wheels are +6 offset. If you use 0 offset, your wheels will be pushed out .2". Depending on how centered your body is, you may hit the body with a 10" wheel/tire combination. If you stick with the +6 offset, you should be good to go.

Im running 20x10 with a +6 offset and 275/40r20's on the back of my very lowered 1994 caprice wagon without any rubbing. as long as the body isnt too far off center you'll be good. Im not sure if you could go any wider than a 275 tire though.

I have a set of riddler 18 inch wheels on my car. No idea on the offset as they came with the car. Currently, I have 235/50-r18’s on there and there is no issue with rubbing. The sidewall is a bit small for me, so id like to step it up to a 245/55 when I get new tires. Everything Ive been reading has said that should be fine.

Ive also read that you can go up to about 30” in diameter without any real rubbing. https://tiresize.com/calculator/

I am the same way about sidewall height and much prefer 60 series on the the wagons and also older muscle car stuff.  If the wagon is severely lowered it doesn't seem to look as odd to me with skinny sidewalls, but does on normal ride height ones.

Ours are zero offset rally wheel aluminum clones at 17" with 235/60/17 tires.  That size tire looked right and had the same OD as stock size 225/75/15 that were on it, and also there is a lot of tire choice at that size.  I went with Continental Pro Tour Contact which have excellent for both ride and handling.

We also used 60 series on our previous, much more hotrod, 70 Challenger in 16" front 17" rear.
