My baby is sick

By time I got her to the shop, no reverse, slipping, stuck in 2nd, grinding and clunking sounds. Just waiting for the call. She only has 180,000 kilometers, I thought the transmission would last longer then this.

if you got 180k km out of the original trans, that's pretty good.

Well from all my research my best guess is the sun shell is the main problem. I will probably get the call on Monday and find out the full extent of the damage ($$$ wise).

While it is open, put in a Beast sun shell regardless

That is what I was thinking as well. I hope the transmission shop will be cool with that (installing customer bought parts).
Also the time line of getting it shipped to me, the shop may not want the car taking up shop space while parts are in transit.

a trans shop should be able to get an upgraded sunshell.

Skip the Beast, and put in the new Sonnax Smartshell. It's pricey but a huge design improvement.

I just added a thread with some new Sonnax information here.

You really pay a serious amount of taxes.

Did you get any kind of warranty ? What did you spend the other 700$ on ?

The other 700$ was for the labour of the transmission rebuild work. I forgot that in my original breakdown.

12 month warranty.

Is Jasper Transmissions available in Canada?

Me personally i think that the whole job is waaay overpriced,.

We can buy 2-3 complete cars here in toronto area for 3000,.
I paid our local garage 340 total,. Including fluids etc,.. to swap out a transmission last year,

I can't justify 3000 on any of my old wagons, ..

I hope you are pleased and comfortable with the outcome,. Different area,s command different pricing



And as an aside,.. the free healthcare cracks are getting old,. We have 3 rd world healthcare and yes its free

Agreed, but not sure what the prices are on the lower mainland though.  Might be a lot higher than the island.  Had a local guy in Comox R&R the dead trans out of the WB4 (he put in my spare), and do gears and posi for $500.  I supplied the parts though.  Also want to say I provided the fluid. Regardless, I hope it gives you many miles and years of reliable use. If the shop is meticulous and stands behind their work, it may be worth the premium.

This too depends on where you're located.  One of the things that's killing us is that we have 5x the medical administrative/management staff of Germany.  Tail wagging the dog.  Where have I seen that before, again ?

Now this sticks in my craw!!!!!

The transmission shop told me I had a small oil leak (and getting bigger) at the rear of the engine coming from the intake manifold gasket. They also said it appears it had been leaking for quite a while considering the amount of oily gunk build-up. Well I had that gasket replaced 14 months ago at NAPA Autopro, so I took it to them to see if they would honor a warranty because it had been leaking for a long time. They called the head office and were told no it is passed warranty both in time and mileage. I contacted head office myself and tried to plead my case, explaining the leak had obviously had started before the warranty expired......NO DICE. The jackwagon tells me there is NO warranty on this type of work. I said to him " so what you are saying is.... I pay to have the work done again, the second time in 14 months, and it starts to leak in a month I am SOL?" He tells me "yes there is no warranty on this type of repair."
Moral of the story do everything yourself because shops don't stand behind their work anymore.

In all honesty, you probably never needed the manifold gasket replaced. All you needed to do was tighten the rear bolts holding the manifold. It's a notorious problem with the LT1 engines. I haven't heard of anyone having to replace that gasket.

I would try to snug those rear bolts up, before doing anything else.

It's not the LT1 it is 350 TB.
First time 14 months ago it did need to be replaced, I had coolant leaking from around the front.
I wish I would have checked the rear bolts this time for loose ones before I had it repaired this time.
Regardless of these things I am still very surprised that a national chain like NAPA would have such poor customer service so as not to warranty their work.
