Pass Key Fault Empty
PostSubject: Pass Key Fault   Pass Key Fault Icon_minitimeTue Jul 04, 2017 4:11 pm

95 caprice, 135k km. Steady on. Car starts fine. Came on yesterday, stayed on for 4 starts, went away on the 5th for 2-3 min and came back.

I disabled VATS in the tune but I don't think it does anything, because the car won't start with a key with no chip.

I cleaned both the key and the cylinder with 99% isopropyl alcohol and contact cleaner but no joy.

Am I heading towards a car that just won't start one day?

Now that the pass key fault light is on, the resistor-less key starts the car, whereas I am 100% sure it did not start it before.

I suspect that to be on the safe side I need to ground A4 off the TDM.

removed TDM completely, but left the relay in the car.

Jumpered A4 to B5 on the now empty TDM connector. No light, starts fine.

Well it took 22-years but my Security light is on now. Just happened while I was running errands....ran in CVS, came out, went to start the car and it started fine but light is now on solid. Have shut it off and re-started and it comes back on solid every time. Crap.

SO is it as easy and locating the VATS module, unplugging it, and jumping A4 to B5? Is that it?
