Gentex 025898 mirror from a 2008 Chevy HHR with a sunroof for our wagons??

So my '96 Roadmaster came with the dome/reading lights and auto-dimming.   I'm told others had dome/reading lights and a compass, but not auto-dimming.  Previously I had an early LED compass mirror with lights from an Olds Intrigue, which I loved, but it kept running down my battery so I'd removed it.

I nabbed this Gentex 025898 mirror from a 2008 Chevy HHR with a sunroof this past Saturday. Has the compass, autodimming and reading lights. Would like to try installing in my Roadmaster. Has the newer-style big square plug, not the long rectangular plug the Roady has, so trying to find a color-chart to match plug wiring.







If this HHR mirror can be made to work it will be a great mod for our B-body cars!   Will update as soon as I sort out the wires.

Might need to find one of these. My Century mirror I picked has compass and autodim (never available on the Buick Century) but I want the outside temp and map lights, too. I don't know of a mirror that has all 3, but I would settle for map and compass and autodim.

This has map lights, compass and autodim. Don't need outside temp because the Roady has that in the climate control.

That schematic helps, but one of the wires on the one I nabbed is reddish-pink. Wonder if that's a 12V? Don't see that on the chart above.

A friend sent me this...looks good, but again I don't have two black wires, and have that on Reddish-Pink on the HHR wiring:

#13 black - 12+ ignition
#9 Light green - back up lamps
#2 black - ground
#7 dk blue/white - dome lamps 12+ (orange on the Roady)
#6 gray - dome lamps ground (dark blue/white on the Roady)

This is close as I have five wires on the HHR harness (Light green, brown, blue, grey, reddish-pink).

WILL sort this out.

Square HHR mirror wires. So red, blue with a white stripe, green, black, and grey. Ha!

Ideas as to what goes where on the Roadmaster's rectangle plug?

#13 Red - 12+ ignition

That sounds right. I don't remember a green wire on my mirror - guessing that would turn off the auto-dim when in reverse? If I had one, I didn't hook it up - I have a backup camera anyway.

1/22/18 - 2007 Chevy HHR compass/auto-dimming/LED lights mirror installed. Works Great! Here's the colors to match the HHR mirror plug to the '96 Roadmaster wiring.
#13 Red - 12+ ignition (Pink on Roady)
#9 Green - back up lamps (Green, Roady)
#8 Black - ground (Black, Roady)
#6 Dk blue/white - dome lamps 12+ (orange on the Roady)
#1 Gray - dome lamps ground (dark blue/white on the Roady






One thing to note when looking for these mirrors, only the HHRs with the sunroofs have the lights built into the mirror. The regular HHRs don't have lights. Also it was determined that THIS mirror had wiring from a 2007, and the wire colors changed in 2008+, so look for older HHRs if you want the above colors to match exactly.

Turns the compass on or off. That's actually an up-arrow with an N under it, but my phone camera sucks at night.   The other button turns off the auto-dimming feature.  

One thing I don't love is the LED lights are bright white, while the rest of the interior has the normal yellowish traditional bulbs in the door lights and cargo area. The dash now lights up white when you open the doors. LEDs...the modern world....

Still a neat mod. Like the compass, but now need to go drive in circles to calibrate it.

Ahhhh. Interesting. The compass mirror I have doesn't have an option to turn the compass off, just the auto dim.

Nice find. I need an autodim mirror for my new toy... need to hit the yards.

Installed the new compass mirror below in the 1994 Notrod 6spd wagon. As-Noted above, find a non-OnStar Chevy HHR with a sunroof. Mirror has auto-dimming/dome-reading lights and digital compass.

NOTE, some HHRs have regular bulbs for reading lights and some have LED reading/dome lights.   This one had regular bulbs, and note it only has a single power button for both the autodimming and the compass...one button shuts off both, while the one I put in my 96 Roady above has two buttons, and the LED lights.   The wiring below is the same for both.   I think the regular bulbs match the rest of the interior lights in our Roadmasters better, but if you want to be "modern" the LED ones look cool.




Here are the stock auto-dimming and light, but no compass, mirror, and the compass mirror from the HHR.   The stock mirror on the Notrod was loose internally and had a burned-out reading light.   Replacement mirror is tight and works great!


Snip off the plug from the salvage-yard Chevy HHR when you grab a mirror and leave some wiring, and here is how to wire these in.  

#13 Red - 12+ ignition (Pink or Red on Roady)
#9 Green - back up lamps (Green or Brown on Roady)
#8 Black - ground (Black, Roady)
#6 Dk blue/white - dome lamps 12+ (orange on the Roady)
#1 Gray - dome lamps ground (dark blue/white on the Roady






One other thing to note when comparing the LED and Non-LED Chevy HHR mirrors, the compass readout is smaller on the non-LED mirror. Again both work and look great, so you pays your money and you takes your choice! Remember the HHR has to have a sunroof, but not OnStar. Happy Yarding!
