Yesterday at the autocross...

My stepfather's Franken-Fiero... GotTraction

Yeah, that's AIR under the tire!!!! Shocked

He was 2 seconds off FToD yesterday!!!

Man, I gotta build me one of those!!!! Very Happy

It was an 88 Formula 2.8 5 speed (Getrag) and the year they finally got the suspension right! So I found him a wrecked 98 GTP and we pulled the motor and harness out of it. He bought himself a welder and learned by making motor mounts and alternator relocation bracket and other things. Fit it in (and out and in and out and in...), put in a good clutch, spent a few weeks with both harnesses hanging from the ceiling in his garage and making them one... And voila... Mini rocket. The thing is bone stock, too! And it hauls ASS!!!!

You shoulda seen the thing on stock tires! LOL! Step on the gas, ass end comes around... Let off the gas, ass end comes around... Step on the brake, yeah, you guessed it... Razz He has some Hankook 140 treadwear tires onnit now and they stick like glue.

I will SO be building an 88 GT in the near future!!!! Wink

Those big v8's are heavy and have a lot of tranny and halfshaft breaking low end torque... Wink

I'll keep the lighter 6 cylinder. It's still a 12 second car, but with less breakage. Wink

Your half way there bill, you have the power train in your unsellable Riv. Now you just need a fiero.

programming , programming, programming,. little box..check.... TC.

Is the all iron 6 lighter than an 1/2 aluminum V8??
My research says the 3800 is nearly 400lbs,. the ls1 is 490,.

I vote for the extra 100-150lbs,.

JMHO,

OK Nick, you can have your extra power. I will be driving mine while you are still trying to figure out how to stop breaking trannies and axles. Wink

And David, don't think I haven't thought about it! Wink

)

sure bud,. kids always flog a car,. but seasoned drivers know how to get the power to ground smoothly,.
'remember son,. i do drive a heavy machine with light axles for a living,.
and i,ve had a bit of track time too,.with tight budget for good rubber and parts,..
but,. you may be right,.there's always someone faster,..it,d be fun to find out wouldn't it?
I,d likely figure out someway of getting some tougher axles from somewhere,.i mean if vettes can have half shafts that can handle big power,. then the technology is out there,. ?? maybe?
I personally prefer to drive something thats overpowered,.

I vote we chip in, send a Fiero to both Nick and Bill, and have them drag, autocross, and road course one year from today. Winner keeps both cars!

And yeah, Nick, you're right. He's still in the shakedown, let's see if anything is gonna break, phase. He does plan to do the suspension soon. It's all way too soft, especially up front.
