acid dipping

does anyone know of a place that can acid or chemical dip frames in pa? the closer to philly the better. dont want to medea blast it. i want to get the inside of the frame as well as the outside.there was a place in allentown pa but they closed down. thanks john

You took off the 8 bolts? (jab at Chris here)

i have not removed the bolts. i am doing the rear and thought i would clean up the bottom of the car up. i have the tank down and the exhaust out the headers and cat delete pies are out. i sent the headers and cat delete pipes back to jet hot and had them recoated. i have the trans crossmember out. as i was cleaning the under side up i thought it would not take alot more to tear the rest out. i will probably just keep plugging away at it the way i am doing it now with wire wheels and flapper disk. i might just try and remove the body bolts and just jack up the body a little to get to the body above the frame so i can clean it up. i am going to use por 15

My two cents. But I would avoid POR-15. It's not as good as they make it sound, plus it needs to be top coated to be UV resistant. I would suggest SEM Rust Shield. I've used it on my car with very good success. A couple guys on the New England board have as well with good results too.

John, I used POR15, probably about 5 or 6 years ago for a inner fender well. I took the fender well out and did it on "saw horses" in my driveway. I probably got 10 spots on the driveway. They are still there and easy to spot. That stuff is tuff. The driveway gets plowed, sanded and a whole lot of use.

Oh, and it still looks good on the fender well.

i bought a gallon of it and also the etching prep they tell you to use. i was cleaning frame the other day with safety glasses on and did not notice how the garage was filling with rust dust. i came out from under the wagon and noticed the whole garage had a brown dust. i opened the garage door looked like something was on fire with all the dust flying out of it. i wish someone was there to take picture of me my face was covered in a black coating. next time i am bringing a respirator. i did think ahead and cover the car cover in plastic

Wow, how Gerry-esk!!

The guy I have used for powdercoating might be able to handle it. We could pull the chassis on my lift and put it on rollers so we can move it into the driveway.

hey tim .most powder coater will sand blast frame but that would not get the inside of frame.

Por15 is some good stuff. I started doing my sedan's new front wheel houses with it. The one I did a year ago still looks great. The rust turns a dark brown- black and stops rusting after the acid is sprayed on. I left the acid on for a day before I cleaned it. What ever you do don't get any moisture in the can at all! Even sweat. It makes it turn into a rock. Moisture hardens it.
