| I was searching for alternative disc brake solutions. Most that I've seen require at least a 17" rim. I have 16" and want to keep them. The info mentions 10 bolt rear axles, so I was wondering about it. it mentions 2 setups as follows: 1) same as above ( EC845A) for 5 inch bolt circle EC-845B..........................................$ 575.00 2) 73-94 Chevy/GMC (1/2 ton pickup w/5" bolt circle) - with "C" clip axle retainers only EC-848............................................$ 575.00 http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/rear_discbrake_conversions.htmlDon't know if we have "C" clips on the axles. | put bigger brakes on the front first,.. the rear drums are strong enough for most applications other than track work,. | |

| Speaking of bigger/better front brakes, I'm open for suggestions, bearing in mind the 16" wheel limit. If you (anyone) have some ideas, I'd be appreciative, please share.
I'd admit that the disc rear would mostly be for appearance sake, The ol' boy doesn't see much track time except for three laps at The Glen every year. If it stops better/less distance, that's also a plus.

| My only worry with aftermarket disc conversions is availability/cost of wear parts. | |

If you (anyone) have some ideas, I'd be appreciative, please share. What I did after a way too close encounter with an elk was a set of SSBC dual piston calipers and a Wilwood proportioning valve. MAJOR seat of the pants improvment in stopping distance. Calipers are a bolt on using stock mounts and pads. The SSBC clamps offer enough extra stopping force that the rears were activating the ABS way too often. The valve cured that after a bit of trial and error. The valve install was a PITA in regards to the different styles of fittings involved. Next time I have a wheel off I'll try a stock 15" alloy and check clearance. Cheers, Vern [url [/url]
