| My wife has been driving the 96 Roady for the last few days while I was waiting on and replacing the air compressor in her 97 Astro. Happy to report that I found the leaks (high side port and compressor belly), got it vacuumed out, recharged, and it's working great now. Unfortunately, she told me this evening that the AC in the wagon didn't seem to be getting very cold even on max. Can someone tell me what high and low side pressures should be, or point me to a pressure chart?
Stupid Harrison compressors....

Most professional shops either weigh in or measure by volume the 134 refrigerant. To properly use high and low side pressures to charge, you need a few more temperatures and even relative humidity to get the optimum charge.
Having said that, there are a lot of rules of thumb and educated guesses that people use to get by. These systems are pretty forgiving, but the correct charge gives the best combination of heat removal and compressor and clutch life.

| The chart is in the FSM. It lists pressure and temperature. | |

| ""The chart is in the FSM. It lists pressure and temperature.""
The BS0051B chart in the FSM requires, in addition to High side and Low side pressures, two accurate temperatures and relative humidity. The chart is intended for performance checking and system trouble shooting. It is not a "charging chart", per se.
The FSM procedure for proper charging is by weight.

| My intent was to check the pressures to determine whether to evacuate and recharged with dye. But I ran the system and it felt plenty cold to me. It was rather hot and humid that day so I don't know if the "problem" was real or imagined. However I did an oil change last night and when I was underneath lubricating the front end I noticed a stripe of greenish oil inside the passenger frame real next to the clutch pulley. It's generally pretty clean underneath so it stood out. I've had the car for two years and at some point in the not so distant past the AC had been serviced because the hoses, accumulator, and condenser are all very shiny new...but the compressor still looks original. So that may need to be addressed in the future, but I'll hold off since it seems to be working fine.
The real problem with her driving it lately is she's really in love with how it feels behind the wheel.

| She drove the wagon again today and complained that the AC wasn't working correctly. So I went out and tried it for myself. Works fine. Turns out she was selecting Auto AND Vent together. Lol. I can't give her too much grief...I don't know what half the knobs on the washing machine do.
Thanks for the chart Jay. That's exactly what I was looking for. Knowing what I do know about Harrison compressors it'll come in handy some day.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, how would one use this chart to charge their system ?
