Car is a 1995 rms w/out twilight

No back lighting for the guage cluster or hvac controls when turning on headlights

Radio lights also do not dim

Headlights, interior & dash indicator lights do work fine

fuses check out ok

Headlight switch felt a bit odd when pulling out the knob. Popped the dash off and found the plastic retainer nut for the headlight switch was stripped as usual with 2 small screws holding it on...pulled that off to find the switch body then had 2 small rivets holding it tightly in place...made me laugh.

I installed another headlight switch and no difference... so I'm thinking someone attempted to fix the issue, broke the plastic nut, then just put it all back together in that special way

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Dan

Don't know if this is your issue, but here goes: On my RMW, I had quirky things that were going on with the lights. The problem was somewhat opposite yours, there were certain lights that would not turn off. I changed the "chime" box, passenger side kick panel and all was well. I have read posts from other members having similar problems and it also turned out to be the "chime" box.

Not sure of the location of it on the sedan, could be in the same area, but for some reason I remember it around the steering column. Being a parts guy, I'm sure you know.

Tom

Thanks Tom,

Looks like this whole electrical forum is on the chime module lately

So I swapped mine and no difference

Then I went and checked the fuses again ( with a brighter flashlight this time) and found int. dim fuse blown

so umm yeah, lets just pretend this thread never happened Embarassed

Yep, but most are my dumb questions.

My misbehaving chime box turned out to be an innocent bystander: the cause was some crud on the #33 fuse contacts which I only discovered after pulling the fuse, and checking for continuity in the fuse itself, as well as across the contacts in the box.
