Thanks for all the comments. 81X11 and 94WOODY wrote about rust and the damage to the driver quarter panel. That is not rust on the quarter panel. A tire threw its tread and beat the panel up. The only significant rust is on the passenger quarter panel just above the tail pipe. It is about 2" square and can be seen on the picture of the right side.
I provide a list to interested parties of ALL the issues of this car that I am aware of. There are about 20 items, ranging from the antilock system not working to a non-original driver floormat. It sounded so negative I decided to also set out the positive items. I thought you might be interested in that list. Here it is:
When I read the litany of negative issues I have put together below, I feel I am doing the car a great injustice. So here is a list of the numerous positive features of the car. The back seat and third seat have rarely been used so the upholstery, carpets, door panels, seat belts and roof fabric all look brand new. Ditto the front passenger area with a bit more use. The cargo area has barely been used and is in terrific shape. The luggage cover is virtually unused. The spare tire and jack system are all in place. Although it has the towing package, it has never towed a trailer (no hitch). The engine, transmission, steering and brakes work great. Most, if not all, original decals and stickers are in place. EVERYTHING works if it isn't otherwise listed below. The A/C, heater, climate control, defrost and defogger all work. The power windows and seats, including recliners, all work. The wipers and washers work, both front and rear. All exterior, interior, instrument, warning and courtesy lights work and all gauges work. The Cruise control, Twilight Sentinel, electric door locks, remote entry, outside mirror controls, sound system, radio, cassette player, clock, compass, cigarette lighters and child locks all work. Other than the items mentioned below, the body and paint are in fine shape with no significant rust and all the trim is in place. All the documents and materials that came with the car, the Buick sales brochure and both shop manuals are included. This is one great car and one great package! It is still a real cruiser with plenty of power, just great on the highway. In my opinion it is the epitome of the suburban station wagon and has never been matched. It is comfortable, luxurious, classy, solid and powerful. It's got it all. It is equally at home at the lumber yard, grocery store, marina or the Saturday night dance at the country club. It has served me well for 26 years and is the finest looking car I've ever owned. That's why I haven't been able to part with it. But it is now being wasted at only 100 miles per year and that is a disservice to this wonderful car. I just can't stand by and let it atrophy away.
I love this car!
