| The joys of a new to me 96 RM estate collectors vs ny emissions... after years of watercooled vw vans cleared the fleet and jumped into the world of lt1s . Scanner shows 336 and 410 so crank position sensor A circuit and secondary air injection system. Any thoughts/suggestions on where to start would be appreciated- would love to cruise this baby to wagonfest... thanks in advance for any advice | |

| Second code should be failed air pump. It can be deleted (and the pump plugged/fuse pulled) but you will need to reprogram the PCM to remove the CEL. This is emissions legal. GM actually made a label for it (and that label is reproduced). Most of us actually remove the air pump and the piping (although the TSB only allows for disconnection). [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]For the first one, try clearing it and seeing if it comes back. If it does, throw a sensor at it, it's on the timing cover. | |

| Thanks for the quick response jayoldschool. tried clearing so next step is new sensor. Disconnect of air pump underway. Assume the pcm reprogram is a dealer deal? | |

| Programming is an aftermarket thing.
Put your location, and car in your signature.

| Actually Fred, PCM re-programming for 96 can be a dealer thing. The TSB was issued by GM, as was the software update to turn off the call for the air pump.
However, it will likely be cheaper to do it aftermarket.

| Semi local dealer (mangino ballston spa ny) 95$ to reprogram for secondary air delete tsb. Not even a ten minute hold w muzak while they scratched their heads. (vs 300 quote just to diagnose from the other guys..) I'll post the outcome in case anyone needs similar around here. | |

| The PCM is just looking for electrical continuity across that circuit. It's gotta be possible to just put a resistor across the plug and fool the PCM. | |
