how hard is it to get to the antennae to replace it? Mine isn't working and I assume going with an aftermarket one would suffice... much cheaper than going with a refurb one... anyone have any experience with one on our cars? I've got an aftermarket radio already so its no big deal on wiring it up or connecting the cable...

You can get parts at; http://www.antennamastsrus.com/GM/Cheverolet/Caprice/Caprice%201991-1996.htm

You must loosen the wheelhouse all the way to the front. Pull the rear out and hold it with a large pry bar to access the antenna. You need a bezel wrench, and a 10mm socket with long extension to get the screw on the fender with the door open. You must wiggle, and twist it to get it out. The antenna must be in the (mostly) down position to remove it. Remove the antenna cable, and disconnect the connector behind the relay bracket.

No on the aftermarket replacements. They do not recess into the fender.
